His influence is most visible in the return of the 588 grind, an updated recreation of the sole used on one of the most recognizable wedges ever produced.

However, the RTZ 2 is not a greatest-hits album with a familiar name on the cover. Cleveland has also updated the internal weighting, face technologies and metal used to make the heads so these new models offer improvements in performance over the last version.

Like the original RTZ wedges, the RTZ 2 wedges are made using Z-Alloy, a proprietary steel the company developed specifically for golf clubs. Cleveland said it is 10 percent softer than the 8620 steel commonly used to make wedges, which should help the RTZ 2 produce a softer sensation at impact.

Z-Alloy is also less dense than conventional wedge steel. That creates discretionary weight that designers can reposition within the head to alter the center of gravity (CG) and sweet-spot location.

The RTZ 2 family expands that idea further with ZipCore iQ. Instead of using the same lightweight ZipCore in the hosel that Cleveland has been using for the past few generations of wedges, the company developed different internal cores for individual combinations of loft and sole grind.

Lower-lofted wedges that are typically used for square-faced shots and fuller swings have mass and a sweet spot positioned like an iron-like to enhance consistency on those strikes. In higher-lofted wedges, which golfers tend to use for a wider variety of shots, the sweet spot has been elevated using a combination of hosel weighting and flange shaping to produce a lower, more controlled launch.

Cleveland claims this loft-and-grind-specific approach can tighten dispersion by producing more predictable spin and control on centered and off-center strikes.

The hitting surface combines several familiar Cleveland technologies like HydraZip, a combination of face blasting and laser-milled lines that are adjusted by loft grouping to help maintain spin in wet conditions. The UltiZip grooves added depth creates room for water, sand and dirt to move away from the impact area, while Rotex milling adds surface roughness between the grooves to help generate predictable spin from the fairway, rough and bunkers.

Golfers will have five stock sole grinds to choose from.

Mid Grind (46 to 60 degrees): This all-purpose V-shaped sole has 10 degrees of bounce and moderate trailing-edge relief.Full Grind (54 to 60 degrees): Designed for golfers with steeper swings or players who frequently encounter soft turf, the Full Grind has 12 degrees of bounce and is ideal for handling thickrough and fluffy bunker sand.Low Grind (58 to 62 degrees): This option comes with just 6 degrees of bounce, along with relief in the heel, toe and trailing edge. Tt is intended for skilled golfers with shallow swings who play from firm conditions and want to manipulate the face around the greens.588 Grind (54 to 60 degrees): Compared with the Mid grind, the 588 Grind has a fuller sole with subtle trailing-edge relief. It has 8 degrees of bounce, with increased bounce in the toe to helps resist digging when the handle is raised, while reduced bounce in the heel allows the face to be opened more easily.Adapt Grind (54, 56, 58, 60 and 64 degrees): Also having 8 degrees of bounce, Adapt Grind comes with a larger, high-toe profile and full-face grooves. The extended grooves are designed to maintain contact on open-face shots, when the effective hitting area tends to move higher and toward the toe.

Through the Tour Rack program, golfers can also modify the leading edge, trailing edge, heel and toe. Cleveland offers several tour-inspired sole treatments, along with sharpened, standard and rounded leading edges. Loft, lie, shaft, grip, engraving, paintfill and ferrule options can also be customized.

Raw wedges typically develop a rusty finish over time, but Cleveland said the rust-resistant properties of Z-Alloy allow the Tour Rack version to retain its appearance and performance longer.

David Dusek is a senior writer at Golfweek covering golf equipment.

Aug. 4, 2026, 8:50 a.m. ET Cleveland’s new RTZ 2 wedges are forged from a softer, proprietary Z-Alloy…

[3023
58,1347,1424,59,95,96,3147,3138,102,103,69,106,3145,187,62
post-46638","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cleveland","tag-accessfree","tag-cleveland","tag-oh","tag-sourcegolfweek","tag-sstssportsgolfequipment","tag-sstsnequipment","tag-tagcleveland","tag-tagcleveland-golf","tag-taggolf-equipment","tag-taggolfweek-golf-equipment","tag-tagoverall-positive","tag-tagproduct-reviews-price-comparisons","tag-tagsrixon","tag-tagstory-highlights-ai-enabled","tag-typestory
["GET
