LIV Golf has a deal with an unnamed new lead investor \u201cin place\u201d to help carry the circuit beyond 2026, according to Bob Harig of THE DAILY DRIVE. LIV Golf CEO Scott O\u2019Neil said that LIV Golf 2.0 will \u201cmake players \u2018the majority equity holder.\u2019\u201d The circuit is said to be \u201cconsidering a bankruptcy filing<\/a>, which would potentially place some of its own players who are owed money on existing contracts as creditors.\u201d That could \u201clead to a situation where LIV Golf negotiates new terms with the players who are owed money, including equity in the league.\u201d O\u2019Neil has previously said that he has \u201cbeen looking for outside investment\u201d of more than $300M \u201cin order to fund a new, leaner LIV Golf 2.0\u201d that would see a \u201creduction in tournaments from the 14 currently on the schedule as well as smaller purses\u201d than the $30M events now being played. A source confirmed that termination emails have been \u201csent to some employees, giving them 30 days notice, but that new investment could possibly impact other opportunities at the company\u201d (THE DAILY DRIVE, 8\/5<\/a>). When asked whether a completed deal means that LIV Golf will have a season in 2027, O\u2019Neil responded, \u201cand 2028 and 2029 and 2030\u201d (THE ATHLETIC, 8\/5<\/a>).<\/p>\n

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS: GOLF\u2019s Sean Zak notes LIV Golf will be \u201cfundamentally scaled back and altered, from 14 events down to 10.\u201d Half of those events will be \u201cbased internationally and called \u2018Team Majors,\u2019\u201d while the other half will be \u201cpredominantly based in America and aligned with the weeks directly prior to major championships.\u201d The amount of money on offer \u201cwill also\u202fchange.\u201d The\u202fexpectation is that LIV\u2019s purses will shrink to less than $20M, and perhaps even beneath $15M as it \u201clooks to streamline its available capital entering its next season\u201d (GOLF, 8\/5<\/a>). In N.Y., Mark Cannizzaro writes despite the encouraging news, a \u201clitany of questions still persist with LIV Golf,\u201d which has two more events scheduled before the end of the 2026 season after this week — Aug. 20-23 in Indianapolis and the season-finale team championship after that in Michigan. Numerous reports said that the Michigan event, scheduled for Aug. 27-30, \u201cwill not take place<\/a>,\u201d though neither O\u2019Neil nor anyone associated with LIV has confirmed that (N.Y.
