CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) \u2013 A Chattanooga golf cart business is working to recover after flash flooding Friday wiped out its inventory and caused extensive damage.<\/p>\n

Scenic City Golf Carts on Standifer Gap Road shared video showing water rushing through its parking lot and sweeping away golf carts and other equipment.<\/p>\n

Chris Poe, owner of Scenic City Golf Carts, says the business had experienced some flooding in the parking lot before, but nothing like what happened Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheres always been you know like a little flood coming through the middle of the parking lot, but never definitely never expected that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poe says the flooding quickly overwhelmed the property as employees tried to move the golf carts and other inventory to safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it started raining hard and then we started noticing water coming into the shop and I came out, walked down and came around the front and then all of our golf carts were underneath water and that\u2019s when I hollered for cameo to come and help me and had our other employee out helping us and we were trying to pull the golf carts out with four wheelers truck anything we could.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the effort, Poe says one employee was swept into a culvert by the force of the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe slipped and it was probably a good 6-foot-deep water going through a big culvert and once he went down in there the force of the water had sucked him down in there, and he was grasping on, and I jumped into the water in between the golf cart and the culvert myself and almost washed myself away, but grabbed a hold of him and him looking up at me, saying please don\u2019t let me die boss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poe says the employee suffered broken ribs, while Poe injured his shoulder while pulling him from the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt broke a couple of his ribs and stuff and ripped my shoulder out of socket and stuff, but I was not letting him go, so I didn\u2019t care about the golf carts at that point. The only thing I wanted to do is make sure that our employee was safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poe says the business has personal meaning for his family. He started Scenic City Golf Carts after losing his son to leukemia five years ago, with part of the business\u2019s earnings going toward leukemia-related fundraising and donations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started the golf cart dealership in order to raise money for leukemia treatments for my son, and we try to be involved with donations. We have a fundraiser we do every year for leukemia Association. We partner like KZ 106 and other organizations, and I lost my son five years ago, and it put us in a dark place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poe says the business did not have flood insurance and is now facing losses of about $60,000.<\/p>\n
