GREENSBORO, N.C. \u2014 Kiefer Mills has made the short drive up from Randolph County multiple times over the years to watch the Wyndham Championship. It\u2019s an experience he looks forward to each summer.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust being around the PGA golfers themselves because they just seem like down-to-Earth people to me,\u201d said Mills. \u201cI’m always around good fans, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
It gives fans like Mills a chance to learn a thing or two.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI like to utilize how these guys play and see if it can help my game a little bit,\u201d said Mills.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sunday marks the last day for Wyndham Rewards as the title sponsor of the PGA Tour event in Greensboro, which was founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir agreement ends at the end of the year,\u201d said Mark Brazil, executive director of the Wyndham Championship. \u201cWe still haven’t announced anything beyond that yet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brazil says the tournament brings in more than $40 million annually to Greensboro and the surrounding area and gives professional golfers opportunities to give back to the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis means a great deal to this community and the community comes out for it,\u201d said Brazil.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It\u2019s something Brazil says wouldn\u2019t be possible without Wyndham\u2019s partnership.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwenty years in sports is a really long time,\u201d said Brazil. \u201cWithout them, we don’t have this huge PGA Tour event here every year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the state General Assembly approved a $40 million plan to go toward keeping a PGA Tour event in Greensboro.\u00a0<\/p>\n
