Webb Simpson is officially in the pipeline to be a future U.S. team captain in international competition.<\/p>\n

U.S. Team Captain Brandt Snedeker announced Monday that Simpson, 40, will return as the team\u2019s third assistant captain for the Presidents Cup<\/a>, which will be played at Medinah Country Club\u2019s Course No. 3, Sept. 22-27, in Chicago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Simpson, winner of the 2012 U.S. Open<\/a> and 2018 Players Championship, previously served as a captain’s assistant for the U.S. team at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, and was a vice captain at the 2025 Ryder Cup<\/a> alongside Snedeker. A third time in this role suggests he’s being groomed for the top job down the road.<\/p>\n

Simpson joins 2024 Presidents Cup U.S. Team Captain Jim Furyk and 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team Captain Keegan Bradley as captain\u2019s assistants for the 2026 U.S. squad. Snedeker has one remaining spot available to round out his slate of assistants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWebb embodies everything you want in an assistant,\u201d Snedeker said in a press release. \u201cHe has competed at the highest level, has represented our country on various teams and he\u2019s earned tremendous respect from players across generations. His experience as a Presidents Cup competitor, major champion and seven-time PGA Tour winner gives him a valuable perspective. The guys tend to gravitate toward Webb, and I know he\u2019ll have a strong and positive impact in the team room.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

A former Wake Forest standout, Simpson represented the U.S. in three Presidents Cups (2011, 2013, 2019), compiling a 5-3-2 record while helping the U.S. to victory in each appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a tremendous honor to be asked by Brandt to serve as a captain\u2019s assistant,\u201d Simpson said. \u201cRepresenting the United States has always been a massive career highlight, whether as a player or in a leadership role. Brandt is one of the most respected players in our game, and I\u2019m grateful for the trust he\u2019s placing in me to help support his captaincy at Medinah.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

A seven-time Tour winner, Simpson earned his first title at the 2011 Wyndham Championship and has long been regarded as one of the Tour\u2019s most respected players.
