After weeks of silence from LIV Golf leadership about the fate of its forthcoming Michigan team championship, on Wednesday morning The Telegraph reported<\/a> that players and staff had been informed that the event had been canceled. The news isn\u2019t exactly surprising. The rumor has held the title of \u201cgolf\u2019s worst-kept secret\u201d for weeks, and despite LIV CEO Scott O\u2019Neil touting a mysterious new angel investor<\/a>, the league\u2019s future remains murky at best. What is surprising, however, is that as of Wednesday afternoon, hours after the Telegraph report, LIV Golf has not only not made a formal announcement but is still selling tickets to the supposedly 86\u2019d event. Yes, really.<\/p>\n

Right now, it seems the only the certain thing about the upstart league, which had its PIF funding rug pulled<\/a> earlier this year despite claims of being backed through 2032, is uncertainty. That especially goes for Michigan golf fans who still have no idea if the tickets they could potentially still buy today will be worth the paper they\u2019re printed on in two weeks\u2019 time.<\/p>\n

LIV Golf has set a strong precedent of confusion and bad PR since its inception, but this is easily one of its most shameful flubs yet. The league\u2019s unwillingness to say \u201cwhen\u201d is no longer affecting multi-millionaire professional athletes, but local vendors, the minimum-wage employees that work for them and, of course, golf fans, none of whom, at least from outside looking in, know whether to stick or twist. Here\u2019s hoping at the very least LIV pauses ticket sales for while they work out whatever it is they need to work out, because if the reports are to be believed, this is no longer just a harmless clerical error.
