He falls to Taishi Moto, who needed 19 holes to knock off the medalist. Moto was the final player to advance through the playoff Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n Ryder Cowan takes down Miles Russell with chip-in<\/p>\n The best match of the U.S. Amateur Round of 64 lived up to the hype. Ryder Cowan wins it on the 17th hole<\/a> after chipping in for par, right after duffing a chip and leaving it in the rough. The 17-year-old Russell heads home after one match play round. Three weeks ago, he was runner-up at the U.S. Junior.<\/p>\n Russell ties Cowan with 6 to go<\/p>\n The best match is tied with six holes to go. Cowan led 2 up but Russell has won the 10th and 12th holes to tie the match. An exciting finish coming.<\/p>\n Stellar shot leads to win<\/p>\n Michael Lugiano had a difficult lie from the left rough and made it look easy. He knocks out Chase Hughes.<\/p>\n Stewart Hagestad advances<\/p>\n Playing in his 17th U.S. Amateur, Stew is moving on to the Round of 32 after a 5 and 3 victory against Ryan Downes.<\/p>\n Double bogey … to win!<\/p>\n It has happened twice now, a double on the 18th hole to win. Rudy Sautron is the latest to achieve the feat, taking down social sensation Matthew Lowe.<\/p>\n Western Amateur star moves on<\/p>\n Jay Leng Jr. won the Western Am a couple weeks ago to put himself on the Walker Cup bubble. On Wednesday, he had another match-play win and is into the Round of 32.<\/p>\n Russell, Cowan all square to begin<\/p>\n Both players have won a pair of holes along with two ties to begin. Tied thru 6, and this match is living up to the hype so far.<\/p>\n USGA scoring down temporarily<\/p>\n The USGA’s scoring for the U.S. Amateur has stopped working for nearly an hour. The USGA has been working on a solution since finding out about the problem and it should be resolved soon.<\/p>\n First match in the books<\/p>\n Brandon Knight takes down Connor Graham, 6 and 5, in the first completed match in the Round of 32. Knight, who plays at Colorado, won the first four holes of the match and eight total.<\/p>\n Round of 64 underway at Merion<\/p>\n Gaven Lane holds a 1-up lead against Grady Brame Jr. thru 8 holes in the first match off this morning. There are plenty of good matchups in the Round of 64, but the best is by far world No. 4 Miles Russell taking on No. 8 Ryder Cowan. Both players good enough to win this championship, and one of them is going home Wednesday night.<\/p>\n Playoff complete after 3 holes<\/p>\n William Love and Parker Sands birdie the second playoff hole to advance, then Taishi Moto makes a bogey but knocks out Gabriel Palacios on the final hole to advance into match play.<\/p>\n Playoff down to 7-for-3<\/p>\n Eight birdies on the first playoff hole, and those players advance. There was one bogey, too, knocking out Sihao Cong. There was also a near ace. Those advancing were: Emile Lebrun, Joshua Bai, William Jennings, Grayson Wood, Fifa Laopakdee, Ryder Cowan, Jack Whaley and Kihei Akina.<\/p>\n 16-for-11 playoff set to begin<\/p>\n It’s almost time to finish the match play bracket.
