Eamon Lynch has given his reasons why Cameron Young will beat Wyndham Clark to the PGA TOUR Player of the Year title.<\/p>\n
The 2026 Player of the Year award will be first in some time where there is no clear winner.<\/p>\n
Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Gotterup both have three PGA Tour victories but no Majors. Rory McIlroy has been absent outside of his Masters win while Scottie Scheffler has been consistent without any signficant wins.<\/p>\n
That leaves Clark vs Young.<\/p>\n
\u201cWyndham Clark, obviously he won the\u00a0U.S. Open for the second time, he won the Nelson. I think he\u2019s probably got an issue because this is ultimately a popularity vote and he\u2019s a polarizing guy among some in the locker room,\u201d said Lynch.<\/p>\n
\u201cCameron Young to me is the clear favorite. He won The Players Championship, he was second at\u00a0The Open, he won a Signature Event at Doral,\u201d added Lynch.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re being gracious in my mind by putting the world No. 1 and multiple-time Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler on this list because unless Scottie wins at least a couple of playoff events in the next couple of weeks, I don\u2019t think he\u2019s a Player of the Year candidate.<\/p>\n
\u201cSustained statistical excellence does not win the Player of the Year award. Trophies win the Player of the Year award. These are players who know how good he is. That\u2019s not in debate that he is the best player in golf right now; no one in their right mind is going to argue that.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the Player of the Year award is not for the best statistical performance in golf.
