{"id":50002,"date":"2026-08-13T19:18:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/50002\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T19:18:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:18:19","slug":"report-liv-golf-sources-expecting-jon-rahm-to-depart-from-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/50002\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: LIV Golf sources expecting Jon Rahm to depart from league"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated Aug. 13, 2026, 1:47 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_sh\">\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">LIV Golf executives are expecting top player Jon Rahm to leave the league, according to a report from The Telegraph.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">Rahm reportedly could already be working on a return to the DP World Tour in 2027.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">The potential departure comes amid financial uncertainty for LIV Golf after its Saudi funding ends.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">Rahm is LIV&#8217;s highest-ranked player in the world and has won the league&#8217;s season-long points title two straight years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">LIV Golf might be losing its best player in short order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/golf\/2026\/08\/13\/liv-fear-jon-rahm-will-quit\/?WT.mc_id=tmgoff_tw_post_fear-jon-rahm-will-quit\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">James Corrigan of The Telegraph reported Wednesday<\/a> that sources told him those within LIV Golf are &#8220;almost resigned&#8221; to Jon Rahm&#8217;s exit from the league. The DP World Tour has already been notified of Rahm&#8217;s intentions, according to Corrigan&#8217;s report, meaning a 2027 return to the Europe-based circuit could be in the works.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Sources reportedly told Corrigan that LIV still owes Rahm &#8220;a &#8216;nine-figure&#8217; portion of the staggering $300 million signing-on fee.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/08\/05\/report-liv-golf-ceo-says-league-secured-lead-investor\/91180741007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Last week<\/a>, LIV Golf CEO Scott O&#8217;Neil said the league had &#8220;reached an agreement&#8221; with a lead investor to continue its operations after the Saudi Public Investment Fund <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/04\/29\/liv-golf-losing-saudi-funding-after-2026-season\/89619005007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">announced in April<\/a> it was ending its financial support of the league. But O&#8217;Neil did not specify who the new investor is, how much money the potential deal is worth and when exactly it will be finalized.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:440px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/91288905007-getty-images-2287339909.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"John Rahm Of Legion XIII in action during day one of LIV Golf United Kingdom Presented by JCB at JCB Golf &amp; Country Club on July 23, 2026 in Uttoxeter, England.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Rahm, a two-time major champion, is the highest-ranked LIV player in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.owgr.com\/current-world-ranking\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Official World Golf Ranking<\/a> at No. 13. He has four LIV Golf wins to his name, including two in 2026, and clinched his third straight LIV Golf individual championship last week at LIV Golf New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The news of Rahm&#8217;s potential departure comes less than 24 hours after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7509214\/2026\/08\/12\/dp-world-tour-liv-golf-players-2027-fines\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Gabby Herzig with The Athletic reported<\/a> the DP World Tour is set to fine LIV players in 2027 as part of its conflicting events policy. Earlier this year, eight LIV Golf members were <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/dpworldtour\/2026\/02\/21\/jon-rahm-not-among-8-liv-golf-members-granted-release-by-dp-world-tour\/88797082007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">granted a conditional release<\/a> to continue playing LIV tournaments while maintaining status on the DPWT. Maintaining DPWT membership is crucial to many European players, especially those of Rahm&#8217;s stature, as it&#8217;s required to be eligible for the <a data-autotag=\"39bc4bbc-7421-4898-81c2-d3cb2a33c9f3\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/golf\/pga\/ryder-cup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Ryder Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">On its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livgolf.com\/schedule\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">official schedule<\/a>, LIV has two events remaining in 2026: LIV Golf Indianapolis at The Club at Chatham Hills, and the LIV Golf Team Championship at The Cardinal at Saint John&#8217;s in Michigan. But the latter is as good as canceled, <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/08\/09\/liv-golf-host-season-ending-michigan-team-event-not-happening\/91236294007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">according to TV host Craig Doyle<\/a>, who said the Indianapolis tournament will be the league&#8217;s final event of the season while speaking on a LIV Golf broadcast.
