Owatonna’s talent in golf was showcased at both the city open and the junior city open two weeks ago, with all three of the city’s golf courses hosting.<\/p>\n
Brooktree Golf Course and the Owatonna Country Club were set to host both events, with the first days of both taking place at Brooktree and the second at OCC. The junior city open had to deal with rain though, with the second day at the country club being cancelled. Havana Hills Golf also hosted the younger ages for the junior city open.<\/p>\n
Owatonna Junior City Open<\/p>\n
The junior open took place on Thursday, July 30 at Brooktree and Havana Hills. Havana Hills hosted ages 4-12 while Brooktree hosted 13-18 year olds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“It is a great event where parents and grandparents get to see their kids,” Owatonna Golf Booster President Cooper Hager said about the junior open.<\/p>\n
At Havana Hills, ages 4-12 were split up in six total categories and saw about 35 kids compete. The competition at Brooktree saw all ages from 13-18 years old play against each other, with two winners being crowned.<\/p>\n
The second day of the open was set for Friday, July 31, but due to rain, it had to be cancelled. The results of the tournament were then based on the scores on day one.<\/p>\n
Owatonna City Open<\/p>\n
The weather cleared up for Saturday, as golfers once again competed at Brooktree. Round two of the city open then took place at OCC on Sunday, with there being eight winners crowned.<\/p>\n
The city open is comprised of 36 holes, with 18 taking place on both courses. The criteria to enter the competition was to be a member of either OCC or Brooktree, a resident within the Owatonna High School district, a graduate of OHS, or a USGA handicap holder.<\/p>\n
