Scott County senior Clay Wachter won the first individual title of his high school golf career, taking top honors Monday in the Bronco Invitational.<\/p>\n
Frederick Douglass hosted the event on the University Club of Kentucky\u2019s Big Blue Course.<\/p>\n
Wachter, who has posted several top-5 and top-10 finishes throughout the summer, was the only player to shoot par 72.<\/p>\n
He rallied from a double bogey on the third hole and bogey on the fourth with three consecutive birdies at five, six and seven to balance the ledger.<\/p>\n
Another bogey just before the turn left Wachter back on the plus side, but he birdied the par-3 No. 12 to pull even once again. Wachter then split the two par-5 holes on the back nine with a bogey at 13 and birdie on 16.<\/p>\n
Wachter defeated Blake Thomas of Frederick Douglass and Knox Taylor of George Rogers Clark by one shot.<\/p>\n
Scott County finished sixth out of 18 schools with a score of 319.<\/p>\n
The remainder of the Cardinals\u2019 roster finished within a single shot of each other. Stan Miller and Jackson Bishop each crafted an 82. Adam Griesser and Cullen Chandler carded 83.<\/p>\n
GRC\u2019s team total of 300 topped Frederick Douglass by six shots. Henry Clay (307), Lexington Catholic (309) and Ryle (314) rounded out the top five.<\/p>\n
Great Crossing (357) also competed in the tournament. Charlie Osmon\u2019s 84 paced the Warhawks.<\/p>\n
Calder Jansen and Tyler Jackson each notched 90. Ben Walker rounded out the scoring with 93.
