Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 is hosting its annual \u201cJim Butler\u201d Golf Outing on Sept. 23 at Bliss Creek Golf Course in Sugar Grove with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., post officials said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is our annual event that honors and supports the veterans in the Aurora community,\u201d said Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion Post 84 Cmdr. Mike Eckburg in a press release about the event. \u201cEvery year we host active duty military and National Guard members to golf for free to show our appreciation for their service.\u201d<\/p>\n
The annual golf outing is in its sixth year and brings together members of the community to honor and support not only active-duty service members but also the veterans that are in the Aurora area, the release said. All proceeds go directly to veteran services and support programs, officials said.<\/p>\n

The Roosevelt-Aurora American Legion recently moved to 1677 Montgomery Road in Aurora, which was the site of the former Java Plus Coffee, post officials said.<\/p>\n
Applicants sought for Geneva Academy<\/p>\n
The city of Geneva is accepting applications for the inaugural Geneva Academy, a free hands-on program designed to give residents behind-the-scenes insight into their local government, according to a city press release.<\/p>\n
The interactive program will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 16 to Oct. 28 at various municipal facilities. Participants will tour city buildings, engage in mock activities and meet directly with department leaders from City Hall, Finance, Police, Fire and Public Works, the release said.<\/p>\n
The program is open to residents, though a limited number of spots may be available for local business owners, employees or high school students. The program will be limited to 15 participants, and applications can be submitted online through Sunday, Aug. 30, officials said.<\/p>\n

Art history program set at St. Charles Public Library<\/p>\n
Art historian Timothy Campbell will give a presentation on modern art at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles.<\/p>\n
Campbell will explore some of the most compelling movements and figures in modern art, from New Expressionism and Surrealism to the innovative world of Organic Architecture, according to a press release about the presentation.<\/p>\n
Drawing connections across artistic styles and periods, Campbell will highlight the work of influential artists including Frida Kahlo, Bruce Goff, Anselm Kiefer, Philip Guston and Hilma af Klint, event organizers said.<\/p>\n
Campbell is an adjunct faculty member at the College of DuPage.<\/p>\n

Mandala South Asian Performing Arts to perform Sept. 20<\/p>\n
Mandala South Asian Performing Arts will bring the traditions of South Asia to Naperville with its show, \u201cNature and Narratives,\u201d being presented at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St.<\/p>\n
The immersive production features artists from India, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan, a news release said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNature and Narratives\u201d is inspired by the human connection to Earth and nature and will feature rare traditional instruments, dance and storytelling, the release said.<\/p>\n
Artists scheduled to perform include Chethan Anant, an Indian classical musician and vocalist; Pak Ngurah, a Balinese dancer and percussionist; Chamni Sripraram, a South Asian percussionist; and Tzu-Tsen Wu, a plucked-string multi-instrumentalist who plays in a variety of styles.<\/p>\n
The musicians will be joined by solo dancer Raji Venkat, who recently joined Mandala Arts as an associate artistic director, the release said.<\/p>\n
Artist Marvin Veloso will display his piece, \u201cTapestries Toward the Future,\u201d which is also scheduled to appear in the Naper Boulevard Library from March to May 2027.<\/p>\n
