{"id":51297,"date":"2026-08-16T18:02:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T18:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/51297\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T18:02:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T18:02:12","slug":"danish-championship-turns-into-winthers-tale-australian-golf-digest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/51297\/","title":{"rendered":"Danish Championship turns into Winther&#8217;s tale \u2013 Australian Golf Digest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Denmark golfer Jeff Winther has captured his national title in thrilling style by shooting a five-under 67 to win the Danish Championship by three shots, outlasting a chasing pack that included compatriot Rasmus Hojgaard.<\/p>\n<p>The two Danes delivered an amazing few minutes for the home fans late in the final round at Great Northern on Sunday, with Hojgaard chipping in for eagle at No.17 to briefly join Winther in a share of the lead.<\/p>\n<p>But Winther then responded by draining an eagle putt on the par-four 16th, where he\u2019d driven the green, to go two shots clear again.<\/p>\n<p>The 38-year-old Winther parred the 17th and was then given a standing ovation as he walked to the 18th green, where he also made par to seal his second title on the European tour \u2014 five years after winning the Mallorca Open.<\/p>\n<p>That 2021 victory was notable, too, because Winther got trapped in the bathroom of his hotel ahead of the final round.<\/p>\n<p>Midway through the final round, there was a six-way tie for the lead on 12 under \u2014 and that sextet didn\u2019t even include the fast-finishing Winther, who was 15 under for the week and was applauded onto and off every green.<\/p>\n<p>Winther, who is ranked No.312 in the world, said he was in a state of shock.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a joke, really,\u201d he said, adding that winning his home championship ranked \u201cjust after my kids\u2019 birth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His wife and two kids were in the crowd Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Five players finished in a tie for second place \u2014 Hojgaard (69), Matthew Jordan (71), Yanhan Zhou (73), Filippo Cello (66) and Oliver Lindell (68).<\/p>\n<p>The leading Australian was Jason Scrivener, whose last-round 71 enabled him to finish on seven-under in joint-21st position.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Denmark golfer Jeff Winther has captured his national title in thrilling style by shooting a five-under 67 to&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":51298,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[517,44,17436],"class_list":["post-51297","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","tag-europe","tag-golf","tag-overseas-sport"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/51297","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=51297"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/51297\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/51298"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=51297"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=51297"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=51297"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
