After a pair of runner-up finishes in the small-school division of the Madison County Tournament, Ally Suhre claimed medalist honors.<\/p>\n
Suhre, a senior at Edwardsville, carded a 2-under-par 69 to win the county championship for the Tigers on Aug. 18 at Legacy Golf Course in Glen Carbon.<\/p>\n
Before joining Edwardsville, Suhre played her first two prep seasons at Metro-East Lutheran. She did not play golf last season. Suhre finished second to Father McGivney\u2019s Sarah Hyten in both 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n
This time, no one could catch Suhre. She won the overall championship by three strokes over Marquette Catholic\u2019s Maggie Pruetzel and the large-school title by nine strokes over teammates Alexis Hunt and Emerson Gusewelle.<\/p>\n
Pruetzel shot a 1-over 72, followed by Highland\u2019s Mia Emig at 5-over 76. Hunt, Gusewelle and Marquette Catholic\u2019s Kaylee Piar each shot a 7-over 78.<\/p>\n
Edwardsville, Triad, Collinsville, Granite City and Alton competed in the large-school division. Marquette Catholic, Father McGivney, Roxana, Highland, Civic Memorial and Maryville Christian competed in the small-school division.<\/p>\n
Led by Suhre\u2019s 69, Edwardsville shot a 306 to win the large-school championship for the second consecutive season. After winning eight straight county titles, the Tigers finished second to Triad in 2023 and Highland in 2024 before reclaiming the championship in 2025.<\/p>\n
Triad was second at 388, followed by Alton at 419 and Collinsville at 454. Granite City did not enter enough golfers to compete as a team.<\/p>\n
Highland won the small-school title at 326, followed by Marquette Catholic at 339 and Father McGivney at 445. The Griffins\u2019 run of three consecutive small-school championships came to an end.<\/p>\n
The individual championship for Suhre allows her to join her older brother, Ryan, as a county champion. Ryan won the 2023 small-school title as a junior at Metro-East Lutheran.<\/p>\n
Suhre\u2019s father, Mike, a state medalist at Edwardsville, never had the opportunity to win a county championship. He graduated in 1995. The tournament started in August 1996.<\/p>\n
Hunt and Gusewelle tied for second among large-school golfers with 78s. Kylie Lintker also counted toward Edwardsville\u2019s team score with a 10-over 81, placing eighth overall and fourth in the large-school division. The Tigers had the top four finishers in the large-school field.<\/p>\n
Also playing for the Tigers were Betsy Gates (99) and Anne Brynildsen (100). Gates took 10th among large-school golfers.<\/p>\n
Father McGivney was led by Libby Horton\u2019s 39-over 100. Reese Reinhardt shot 112, Kathryn Kueper had a 116 and Addie Estes finished with a 117. Horton placed ninth among small-school golfers.<\/p>\n
The Griffins are replacing a senior class that included 2025 Class 1A state champion Hyten, a four-time small-school county champion. Riana Thakker, Riley Ramsey and Eve Stanhaus also graduated.<\/p>\n
