CROMWELL, Conn. (WFSB) – PGA Tour Commissioner Brian Rolapp announced changes to the tour during Travelers Championship week at TPC River Highlands.<\/p>\n

The announcement came as excitement builds for the tournament, with the pros set to tee off Thursday.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tiger Woods was also in Cromwell as chairman of the PGA Tour\u2019s future competition committee. Woods, who has never played in the Travelers Championship, was there to introduce Rolapp. It is his first public appearance since his DUI arrest<\/a>in March.<\/p>\n

Changes coming in 2028<\/p>\n

Rolapp said the tour will move to two series starting in 2028.<\/p>\n

The championship series will feature the top 120 players competing each week for $20 million.<\/p>\n

The challenger series will include 140 players competing for $4 million and a chance to move up to the top level.<\/p>\n

Rolapp said 15 championship sites have already been chosen, with five still to be determined. He did not say whether the Travelers Championship would be one of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe aren\u2019t commenting right now on which tournaments are in, but let me say the Travelers is one of the premiere events. The players like it, the fans like it, we like the course. The Travelers people do a lot of things right,\u201d Rolapp said.<\/p>\n

Andy Bessette of Travelers said he appreciated Rolapp mentioning the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very nice for Brian to mention us,\u201d Bessette said.<\/p>\n

The Travelers Championship has been putting on a high-level tournament for 20 years.<\/p>\n
