Australian Richard Green and American Rob Labritz are tied atop the leaderboard at the Rogers Charity Classic after shooting matching seven-under-par 63s in Calgary, Alberta.<\/p>\n
At the only Champions Tour event held annually in Canada, Labritz \u200csurged out to an early advantage, sinking six birdies over his first 17 holes \u200cbefore grabbing one more on the final hole to wrap his bogey-free day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI lost my full status two years ago, so I\u2019ve been grinding back the last few years,\u201d Labritz said after Friday\u2019s round. \u201cWe started out with a nice round today, 63, \u200cI feel good, \u200cbody feels \u2060good, I\u2019m ready to go one shot at \u200ba time and just see where it ends.\u201d<\/p>\n
That could have been enough for sole possession of the first-round lead at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, had defending champion Green not capped his five-birdie day with \u2060an eagle on 18.<\/p>\n
It was a \u200cwelcome \u200bdevelopment for the 55-year-old Green, who despite five top-10 finishes this year hasn\u2019t managed \u200bto duplicate last \u200cyear\u2019s win at this event \u2013 his lone PGA Tour Champions title \u2013 since.<\/p>\n
Labritz, also \u200b55, hasn\u2019t competed in the same volume of events this season and has yet to finish higher than a tie for 16th.<\/p>\n
Seven more players \u200bare \u200bwithin two shots of the \u200blead.<\/p>\n
Spain\u2019s Miguel Angel Jimenez is a stroke \u200cback alone in third at six-under. His day began with four birdies over the front nine before he cooled a touch with three birdies and a bogey on the back.<\/p>\n
Six golfers are tied for fourth at five under. That group \u200bincludes Michael Allen, Jason Caron, Ryan Armour, Jerry Kelly, Michael Block and Thailand\u2019s \u200bThongchai Jaidee.<\/p>\n
