A stabbing injury almost forced World No.18 Robert MacIntyre to miss out on this week\u2019s Tour Championship. Interestingly, the Scot suffered it while playing another sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MacIntyre withdrew from the FedEx St Jude Championship due to the lingering injury. As a result, he dropped to No. 36 in the season-long FedEx Cup rankings. A week later at the BMW Championship, the Scotsman spoke about the injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know what it was,\u201d MacIntyre said. \u201cI\u2019ve been getting serious pain when I squat down to read a putt and stuff. After a long day\u2019s practice session, and the way I\u2019ve been playing lately I\u2019ve been putting in long hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

MacIntyre revealed the pain originated from a Baker’s cyst in the back of his right knee. The Oban man got hold of it while playing shinty, which he often does back in his hometown.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To qualify for the Tour Championship, MacIntyre needed a top 30 at the BMW Championship.<\/p>\n

Playing through the pain, the Scot delivered a final-round 5-under 65 to come tied for seventh. He will now head to East Lake.\u00a0<\/p>\n

MacIntyre did not forget to give due credit to the PGA Tour\u2019s on-site physio and medical staff.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Thursday afternoon, it was like someone was stabbing me in the bottom of my hamstring,” added MacIntyre, as reported by Bunkered\u2019s John Turnbull<\/a>. “So the guys on the truck have done a great job this week in getting me feeling like I can play, so I can\u2019t thank them enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

MacIntyre will now tee off at his third consecutive Tour Championship. <\/p>\n

The World No.18 will need to play through the injury in hopes of securing his first PGA Tour win in two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler is also under the weather<\/p>\n

Ahead of the Tour Championship, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is battling hand, foot and mouth disease. In fact, he played the BMW Championship with the disease.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI got the hand, foot, mouth, so you get blisters on your hands and in your throat and on your feet,\u201d said Scheffler, as per Bunkered\u2019s John Turnbull.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scheffler was coming off a massive eight-stroke victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. As a result, he wanted to keep the momentum going and opted not to withdraw.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The World No.1 struggled in the opening round, scoring a 72. He came into contention with a 65 on Friday. With rounds of 68 on the weekend, Scheffler could only manage a tied-for-12th finish.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scheffler will hope to recover before the Tour Championship and give himself the best chance to win a second FedEx Cup.\u00a0<\/p>\n
