A T16 finish wasn\u2019t enough, leaving the two-time PGA Championship winner on the outside looking in.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas, however, isn\u2019t walking away from the 2026 season focused only on what he missed. Nine months removed from microdiscectomy surgery, he reflected on his comeback in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JustinThomas34\/status\/2092046962006917260\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">lengthy statement on X<\/a> and made his intentions for 2027 clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, my season ended a week sooner than I would\u2019ve liked,\u201d Thomas wrote. \u201cI\u2019m always one who doesn\u2019t give myself much grace and am too hard on myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justin Thomas Gets Candid After Missing Tour Championship<\/p>\n<p>Well, my season ended a week sooner than I would\u2019ve liked\u2026 I\u2019m always one that doesn\u2019t give myself much grace and am too hard on myself. While this year doesn\u2019t feel much different, a part of me (albeit a small part \ud83e\udd23) is proud of comfortably making it the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow external\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BMWchamps\">@BMWchamps<\/a>. Most of <\/p>\n<p>Thomas won the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/golf\/rbc-heritage-classic-field-2026-players\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RBC Heritage in 2025<\/a> for his first PGA Tour victory since 2022, but surgery later that year interrupted his momentum.<\/p>\n<p>He didn\u2019t return to the PGA Tour until the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he opened his comeback with a difficult 14-over performance. Thomas quickly turned things around and remained competitive throughout much of the season, including contending at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n<p>He never found the season-changing result he needed to secure a place at East Lake, but Thomas said he could still find positives in what he accomplished after surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this year doesn\u2019t feel much different, a part of me (albeit a small part \ud83e\udd23) is proud of comfortably making it the @BMWchamps,\u201d Thomas wrote. \u201cMost of the season felt like I was one round or stretch of holes away from holding a trophy come Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas was particularly encouraged by how his body responded after returning to competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s wild to think I\u2019m a little over 9 months removed from my microdiscectomy surgery, and was very pleased with how everything in my body felt this season,\u201d Thomas continued. \u201cA lot of hours and trust in my team to help me every step of the way. Massive thanks to them!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justin Thomas Reveals 2027 Goal: \u2018Winning Tournaments\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Thomas isn\u2019t planning to spend much time dwelling on missing the Tour Championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll that being said\u2026 I\u2019m one day removed from my \u2018season\u2019 being done and I\u2019m already itching to get back,\u201d Thomas wrote. \u201cI\u2019m ready to get back to the quality golf I know I\u2019m capable of and winning tournaments. I\u2019m extremely appreciative of my fans for all their support. Bigger and better things ahead!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His optimism comes after a challenging stretch leading into the BMW Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas arrived at Bellerive Country Club at No. 44 in the FedEx Cup standings after finishing T47 at TPC Southwind. He responded by practicing harder than usual on Monday, but later admitted that the extra work initially made things worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Monday] was a day that I likely would take off, but I just wanted to come out and feel like I kind of had some positivity or something to build on,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cIt took a lot longer than I planned or wanted it to. Really it was, honestly, a pretty terrible day, to be perfectly honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomas said he was exhausted but kept working.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI tried as hard as I could \u2014 that\u2019s literally about the only positive I had,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cI was really tired, I mean, I was tired.
