Change is coming to the PGA Tour in 2028<\/a>. Over the past several months, new CEO and commissioner Brian Rolapp has outlined a sweeping overhaul designed to strengthen the tour for the future. However, the immediate present will look much the same, as evidenced by the 2027 schedule released on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The calendar features only one new event, the Sompo Championship, which comes with a caveat, as it will be held at Silverado Resort, which hosted a tour event from 2014 through 2025. Sompo has been announced as the title sponsor of a Championship Series event beginning in 2028; though the tour has yet to reveal a venue, though sources told Golf Digest that the tournament is expected to land in the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n

There are a handful of other slight changes. The Cadillac Championship at Doral will move to the week before the Players Championship, with the Arnold Palmer Invitational following the Players. The Valspar Championship shifts to May, and a yet-to-be-announced alternate event will be played opposite the Genesis Invitational. Beyond those adjustments the schedule largely mirrors this past season.<\/p>\n

That continuity will end in 2028, when the tour divides into two tiers, the Championship Series and the Challenger Series. The Championship Series will replace the current signature model, while the Challenger Series will operate as a feeder circuit. The two will share a calendar, but little else, with separate fields, purses and points systems. Full schedules are expected to be released in the coming months.<\/p>\n
