Actor and evangelist\u00a0Kirk Cameron<\/a>\u00a0praised\u00a0Taylor Swift\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>historic success while\u00a0warning that her massive influence<\/a>\u00a0over young people comes with a serious responsibility.<\/p>\n

Swift, 36, was recently announced as the youngest person ever inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame\u2019s contemporary songwriter\/artist category. Swift has won 14 Grammys over the course of her career and has sold more than 270 million records worldwide. She is also the highest-grossing live music artist of all time. Swift\u2019s most recent tour, \u201cThe Eras Tour,\u201d grossed more than $2 billon in ticket sales.<\/p>\n

The \u201cLeft Behind<\/a>\u201d actor used the achievement to discuss Swift\u2019s influence on young women and urged Christians to pray that she comes to faith in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether you like Taylor Swift or not, her accomplishment is pretty remarkable,\u201d Cameron said. \u201cI mean she is clearly talented. She\u2019s a gifted songwriter, many would say she\u2019s a brilliant businesswoman, and a performer who has connected with her audience in a way that has them wearing her t-shirts everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd few entertainers have ever reached that level of success and influence,\u201d he added.\u00a0However, Cameron said that influence is also what concerns him.<\/p>\n

Kirk Cameron Says Swift Is \u2018Actually Discipling\u2019 Young People<\/p>\n

Cameron argued that Swift\u2019s influence goes far beyond entertainment because millions of young women look to her when forming their views about life and relationships.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s where my celebration turns into concern. Because when you\u2019re influencing millions and millions of young people, you\u2019re doing more than just entertaining them. You\u2019re actually discipling them,\u201d Cameron said. \u201cYou\u2019re showing them what is good. You\u2019re telling them what\u2019s true. You\u2019re telling them what\u2019s normal and desirable and worth pursuing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron then criticized some of the themes found in\u00a0Swift\u2019s music and performances<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the years, some of her songwriting and her performances have increasingly included themes, imagery, and lyrics that celebrate or normalize sexual immorality, vulgarity, ideas of revenge, drunkenness, bitterness, and rebellion against biblical morality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Cameron explained that he wasn\u2019t accusing every Swift song of containing those messages.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, I\u2019m not saying that every Taylor Swift song does this. It doesn\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cBut when one of the most influential women on earth, and she is, packages those ideas inside of catchy songs, spectacular concerts, clever lyrics, and a spectacularly attractive personality to her fans, they become very powerful in shaping hearts and minds.\u201d<\/p>\n
