I\u2019m an avid golfer, 6ish handicap (on my way to a 2), and a frequent tester of golf clubs and golf products since 2015.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve been playing the Ignis D2 fairway woods, 3 & 5, for about 2 months or so. I also tested them on the range and on my launch monitor.<\/p>\n
Quick Take<\/p>\n
The Ignis D2 fairway woods performed well for me during my rounds and during my testing. I\u2019m not in love with the head shape, the size of the 3-wood, or the sound and feel. But that didn\u2019t stop me from scoring just fine and playing well with them.<\/p>\n
I think they\u2019re a fine match for the mid and high handicappers Takomo says these were designed for. They\u2019ve got tons of forgiveness. They\u2019ve got all the distance you need. And they\u2019re consistent too.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re priced a little too high for my liking when compared to fairway woods from bigger brands that can be only 30 to 100 bucks more.<\/p>\n

These are solid fairway woods I could easily get around the course with.<\/p>\n
They don\u2019t have my favorite profile or head shape, but the look isn\u2019t offputting or way out of the norm. They look like game improvement fairway woods.<\/p>\n
Dead center strikes feel and sound solid, especially with the 5 wood. Miss a little with the 3 wood and I got the sound and feel of an aluminum bat. Definitely not what I\u2019m looking for in a fairway wood.<\/p>\n
Still, I got off the tee fine with both and hit a number of nice shots off the turf during my rounds and during my range testing.<\/p>\n

Six shafts, all from one family, and two grips that are the same model in the same size. If you want a midsize grip or a shaft that isn\u2019t a Ventus, you\u2019re re-shafting it yourself.<\/p>\n Takomo Ignis D2 Fairway Wood Review Looks (3) The heads are on the larger side, especially the 3-wood. It\u2019s elongated from front to back. The 5-wood is more traditionally shaped and seems only fractionally larger to my eyes. Cosmetics are minimal. The only standout is the fluorescent orange coloring near the rear of the sole. The crowns are matte black with a subtle carbon-weave pattern going on.<\/p>\n Distance (4) I found them both as long as they needed to be. I mainly use fairway woods off the tee and only VERY occasionally off the fairway.<\/p>\n Sound & Feel (3.5) I find the 5-wood solid and softish, the way I like it. The 3-wood takes a dead-center strike not to feel\/hear an aluminum bat-like ping.<\/p>\n Launch & Flight (4) I was kind of able to dial this up a bit by playing with ball position.<\/p>\n Forgiveness (4) They both saved me a few times on mishits.<\/p>\n Value (3.5) The $269 price tag seems at odds with how they price their other clubs. A little high to me.<\/p>\n My Experience with the Ignis D2s Straight to the course to get some rounds under my belt with the D2s.<\/p>\n I primarily use fairway woods not from the fairway, but off the tee. When I\u2019m playing well and smart, that is.<\/p>\n The classic place for this is on the 9th hole at Houston National. Depending on where the tee box is for that particular round, the water on the right side of the fairway starts at 240ish to 260ish yards.<\/p>\n So, that\u2019s either a 5-wood or 3-wood depending on the wind.<\/p>\n The next best place for a fairway wood is the next hole, a sharp dogleg left where the fairway runs out at about 250ish yards if you go straight. I usually take a 5 wood here, and I\u2019ve used the Ignis D2 5-wood many times for this shot.<\/p>\n The one time I did pull off a very nice shot – for me – was with the 5-wood on the second shot on the par-5 sixth hole. I probably had 255ish to the hole and I just wanted to get the ball in front of the green with a clear chip or pitch. I hit the Ignis D2 5-wood about as well as I could have. Not swinging hard or anything, but a clean strike that took off straight and high, stayed straight, and finished 229 yards from where I was standing.<\/p>\n From there, I was able to hit a nice pitch not far from the hole and not make the birdie putt.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t practice a ton – or much at all – with fairway woods, is the reason they don\u2019t get much action from the fairway. Plus, I\u2019m a naturally cautious player and don\u2019t attempt many shots I\u2019m not comfortable with.<\/p>\n But, I will hit them off the deck on the range when testing. The numbers above are from my range session where I hit a number of solid shots with the 3 and 5 wood.<\/p>\n Bottom line: They\u2019re serviceable. They\u2019re hittable. They go plenty far and have ample forgiveness.<\/p>\n Who Should Play Ignis D2s? Takomo says they\u2019re mid and high handicappers. I think they nailed it. That\u2019s who I recommend them for also.<\/p>\n Low handicaps (Yes) You certainly can and many do. But you\u2019ll be looking for more refinement, especially as you move closer to scratch.<\/p>\n Mid handicaps (Yes) They\u2019re made to make up for poor contact and inconsistent swings. (I tested that out plenty)<\/p>\n High handicaps (Yes) Definitely worth a look if you\u2019re ready to spend a little more for a fairway wood.<\/p>\n Customer Reviews<\/p>\n The Ignis D2s have an average rating of 4.8 with 69 reviews in. They echo some of what I\u2019ve already said here: (1)<\/a><\/p>\n Plenty forgiving.ConsistentGood distanceSound and feel take a little getting used to. But, the 5 and 7 wood sound and feel more solid. These are solid fairway woods.
