Good Good Golf’s CEO is speaking out<\/p>\n

In a post on X, Matt Kendrick suggested that his company may sue Callaway Golf<\/p>\n

The companies had partnered on a golf club that was depicted in a controversial commercial<\/p>\n

Good Good’s CEO is firing back, one day after Callaway Golf cut ties with the upstart brand and in the wake of their controversial commercial.<\/p>\n

“Interesting that @CallawayGolf asks us to make an ad then approves it then asks us to take the fall then drops us in a coordinated media blitz and covers it up by giving a million dollars away thinking everyone will be ok with it,” Matt Kendrick wrote on X<\/a> in a post on Friday, Aug. 28, sent at 3:38 a.m. ET.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a response to a comment on his post, Kendrick wrote he was “not opposed” to suing Callaway “for every single penny they’re owed plus damages.”<\/p>\n

A representative with Callaway Golf did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.<\/p>\n

The rift comes exactly one week after the ad debuted on social media, and then was quickly pulled.<\/p>\n

In the ad, Good Good’s co-founder Garrett Clark sprints toward a woman, Good Good employee Alexis Miestowski, and shoves her to the ground after she reaches for his Callaway Quantum driver which features a Good Good logo.<\/p>\n

“Do not touch my new driver,” Clark intoned to Miestowski in the ad.<\/p>\n

The ad, which was met with instant pushback online for its depiction of violence towards women, was supposed to be a satire of the movie Obsession, Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark said in his nine-minute-long statement on Wednesday, Aug. 26.<\/p>\n

“Looking back, super dumb ad concept, terrible ad in general, not the greatest idea,” Clark said in his statement.<\/p>\n

In its announcement that it would cut ties with Good Good, Callaway Golf aimed to give insight into how the ad made it to air.<\/p>\n

“In this instance, our content review process was not comprehensive enough,” the company said on Thursday, Aug. 27. “We have taken appropriate internal corrective actions and significantly strengthened our approval procedures to help ensure this does not happen again.”<\/p>\n

In addition, Callaway Golf announced it will donate $1 million to organizations that work to “prevent violence against women, provide resources to survivors, and advance education and awareness efforts.”<\/p>\n

“We sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt, disappointed, or offended by this incident,” the company said.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the backlash, businesses including Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Golf Galaxy, have removed Good Good merchandise from their shelves, ESPN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also on Thursday, Good Good walked away from its upcoming sponsorship of a PGA tournament in Austin, Texas in November that was set to be called the Good Good Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n
