{"id":58020,"date":"2026-08-29T19:01:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T19:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/58020\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T19:01:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T19:01:32","slug":"great-scott-rises-as-min-woo-lees-tour-championship-bid-stalls-australian-golf-digest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/58020\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Scott rises as Min Woo Lee&#8217;s Tour Championship bid stalls \u2013 Australian Golf Digest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It only required about 10 minutes for Min Woo Lee\u2019s hopes to take a nasty turn as Adam Scott emerged as Australia\u2019s new great hope at golf\u2019s insanely rich Tour Championship in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 46-year-old Scott continued his vintage form with a second-round three-under-par 67 to climb into a tie for seventh at the $US40 million showpiece at East Lake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A winner of the grand season finale 20 years ago, Scott will enter the weekend just three shots behind halfway pacesetters Ryan Gerard and Viktor Hovland after a tidy bogey-free round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scott will also start moving day with momentum after collecting his third birdie of round two on his very last hole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lee, though, will be eager to put his second round behind him as the 28-year-old strives to reignite his bid to become the first Tour Championship debutant since Xander Schauffele in 2017 to pocket the monster $US10 million winner\u2019s cheque.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After matching his career low round with a masterful 62 on Thursday, Lee stumbled with a horror triple-bogey seven on the par-4 fifth hole.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1788030092_550_.jpeg\" alt=\"Lee\"\/>Min Woo Lee followed his brilliant 62 with a 73 in the second round.  (AP PHOTO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After spraying his drive into the right rough, the Australian No.1 needed two more shots to find the fairway, then three-putted to suddenly slip from eight to five under and back in the chasing pack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lee rebounded with his first birdie of the day on the next hole, only to drop two more strokes before signing for a three-over 73.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is still in the mix at four under but will start the third round five shots behind, after being two in front before Friday\u2019s slip-up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cameron Young fired the day\u2019s low round, matching Lee\u2019s opening 62, to rocket from equal last to equal fifth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe field seems to be playing pretty well for even-par being last place after yesterday,\u201d said the reigning Players\u2019 champion.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI looked up and I was 2-over, and everybody was under par, and I was kinda contemplating my life choices a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Young shared last place Thursday evening <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TOURChamp?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">@TOURChamp<\/a>.
