<\/p>\nComing into the TOUR Championship, two names were mentioned in the Player of the Year conversation: Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark. But if things go his way over the weekend, as they did on Friday, Cameron Young deserves to be part of the debate.<\/p>\n
During the second round at East Lake Golf Club, Young couldn\u2019t miss through 11 holes. He made seven birdies during that stretch before giving away his first shot of the afternoon at No. 12. He made five straight pars after that, but sent a jolt into the gallery surrounding the par-5 closer with a 42-foot eagle putt that may have rolled off the green if it didn\u2019t crash into the back of the hole\u2014but the best part was the handshake with his \u201cplaying partner.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the 8-under 62, Young was tied for the lead with Min Woo Lee, who started his day with two easy pars. While he\u2019ll most likely be a few shots back going into the weekend, he\u2019s going to be in striking distance with 36 holes to go.<\/p>\n
Now that brings us to the Players of the Year conversation. Let\u2019s assume Young wins the TOUR Championship and FedExCup, here\u2019s a comparison between the seasons of Young, Scheffler, and Clark.<\/p>\n
Wins: Young: THE PLAYERS (Signature event), Cadillac Championship (Signature event), and the TOUR Championship (playoff event); Scheffler: The American Express and the FedEx St. Jude Championship (playoff event); Clark: THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, U.S. Open (major championship), and the BMW Championship (playoff event)<\/p>\n
Top-5 finishes: Young, 6; Scheffler, 12 (before TOUR Championship), Clark, 6 (before TC)<\/p>\n
Top-10 finishes: Young, 9; Scheffler, 12 (before TC); Clark, 9 (before TC)<\/p>\n
Cuts Made: Young, 20\/20; Scheffler, 19\/20; Clark, 18\/23<\/p>\n

That ain\u2019t a two-man race, folks.<\/p>\n
And I\u2019d take it a step further: Young\u2019s wins, thanks to THE PLAYERS, are, at the very least, as good as Clark\u2019s.<\/p>\n
