Viktor Hovland came unstuck in the final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Having started the day three strokes ahead of Scottie Scheffler, Hovland finished three strokes behind the world number one.<\/p>\n

The Norwegian\u2019s two-over-par 72 meant that he finished in solo second, one shot ahead of third-place Ryan Gerard.<\/p>\n

Hovland<\/a> was understandably disappointed with his final-round performance and explained what cost him victory at East Lake.<\/p>\n

Hovland is one of the most hard-working players on the PGA Tour<\/a> and many believe he tinkers with his swing too much.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old is continually trying to find ways to improve, but he has lacked consistency throughout the past few seasons.<\/p>\n

Hovland played really well in the first three rounds of this week\u2019s Tour Championship<\/a> but he could not close the deal.<\/p>\n

He insists that he would have defeated Scottie Scheffler<\/a> and won the tournament if he had his \u201cnormal game\u201d on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Hovland struggled a lot with his ball-striking in the final round, which made it extremely difficult for him to make birdies.<\/p>\n

On another day, he would have carded a round in the 60s and won the Tour Championship, but it was not to be this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, week-wise, second place is a good showing,\u201d Hovland said. \u201cObviously pretty disappointed with how I played today, just with the position that I was at.<\/p>\n

\u201cI only would have needed 1-under par to force a playoff. If I just had my normal game, my normal ball striking from the previous years, I think I take away this tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s obviously disappointing, but at the same time, it\u2019s the way that I was able to have a chance to really win this event after being in some big holes throughout the season. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to battle myself out of it and win Travelers and then come back out here and almost win the whole thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of look at it as a huge positive, but at the same time, just a reminder of what I feel like I should have done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hopefully, Hovland can finally settle on an improved swing over the winter and have an excellent 2027 PGA Tour season.<\/p>\n
