Any questions about whether Scottie Scheffler had loosened his grip atop the world of golf after he won just one regular-season event officially evaporated during the FedEx Cup playoffs.<\/p>\n
Scheffler won Sunday’s Tour Championship, finishing 16-under to best Viktor Hovland by three strokes and securing his second playoff victory in three events. It was also his second FedEx Cup title in the past three seasons.<\/p>\n

Scheffler came into the final round three strokes back of Hovland but stormed back on Sunday. In many ways, it was reminiscent of a season where he perhaps wasn’t at his best early on but finished in elite fashion.<\/p>\n
“I think that’s something I’m very proud of,” he said of his playoff run. “I think when you look over the course of the season, and especially some of the tough starts, shooting over par to start a tournament on the PGA Tour is never a good spot to be in. I’m very proud of fighting back and having some good finishes and even giving myself some chances to win with some of those poor starts. Overall, [I] just continued to battle, day in and day out. It’s something that I’m very proud of. It’s a gift to be out here on tour. Each and every day, I’m going to try to give it my best.”<\/p>\n
Scheffler was never bad, of course, with five runner-up showings and 11 top-five finishes. Most golfers would kill for that type of season. But he reminded the world of golf that he has that next-level gear with Sunday’s 4-under 66.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, Scottie is unbelievable,”\u00a0Ludvig \u00c5berg told reporters. “He’s shown over and over again that he’s world No. 1, and you can just look at the scores in the last couple of groups, and there were no real good scores except for that 66. I thought today was quite difficult, but he played solid golf. He takes control of the tournament.”<\/p>\n
