Golf<\/a>\u2018s new all-time earnings leader Scottie Scheffler needed only seven full seasons on the PGA Tour to eclipse Tiger Woods, who held that title for more than 25 years. Now the question is not whether anyone will catch his total soon. It is how far Scheffler can move the record before his career ends.<\/p>\n

Scheffler earned $10 million by winning the Tour Championship<\/a> on Sunday, pushing his official PGA Tour earnings to $130,390,661. That moved him past Woods, who earned $120,999,166 during his career. Scheffler reached the milestone two months after turning 30.<\/p>\n

Only three golfers have earned more than $80 million in their careers: Scheffler, Woods and Rory McIlroy (~$119M). Looking ahead, Scheffler will eventually finish with a career earnings total that may not be touched for decades.<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler is earning nearly $30 million per season<\/p>\n

Scheffler\u2019s rise reflects his dominance and the enormous purses now available to the best golfers.<\/p>\n

He earned $14.05 million during his breakout 2021-22 season, followed by $21.01 million in 2022-23. His annual earnings then climbed to $29.23 million in 2024, $27.66 million in 2025 and a career-high $30.94 million in 2026.<\/p>\n

That gives Scheffler an average of $29.28 million over the past three seasons.<\/p>\n

The comparison with Woods requires a little more context and a history lesson. Woods never played for a purse larger than $10 million during his prime. The entire 2026 Tour Championship purse was $40 million, with Scheffler receiving $10 million for finishing first.<\/p>\n

Those numbers also exclude several lucrative bonus programs. Scheffler received another $23 million<\/a> for leading the FedEx Cup standings entering the Tour Championship. Because the PGA Tour does not include that bonus in its official career money list, the $130.39 million total significantly understates how much Scheffler has earned on the course. Let alone his many endorsements from major brands like Nike, TaylorMade, Rolex and more.<\/p>\n

The available money should continue increasing. Beginning in 2028, each tournament in the PGA Tour\u2019s new Championship Series will carry a purse of at least $20 million<\/a>. That structure will give stars such as Scheffler more chances to compete for multimillion-dollar checks.<\/p>\n

How much longer will Scheffler play?<\/p>\n

Scheffler should have plenty of productive golf ahead of him. Data Golf\u2019s study of professional aging curves<\/a> found that players typically improve until 32, remain relatively stable from 32 through 37 and then decline through their late 40s.<\/p>\n

That gives Scheffler about seven more seasons in or near his physical prime. He could also remain a regular contender into his early 40s. Phil Mickelson provided the extreme example when he won the 2021 PGA Championship at 50, although building a projection around that kind of longevity would be overly optimistic.<\/p>\n

Scheffler could approach $450 million before retiring<\/p>\n

A reasonable model starts Scheffler near his current earnings rate, gradually lowers his expected results as he ages and applies 3% annual purse growth as a mix for the sport\u2019s growing popularity and inflation. Under that model, Scheffler would average approximately $30 million in 2026 dollars from ages 31 through 35. His earnings would gradually fall from about $24 million at 36 to $13 million at 40, then drop further through 45.<\/p>\n

After accounting for increasing purses, that path produces $325 million in additional official prize money. Added to his current total, Scheffler would finish near $455 million.<\/p>\n

A conservative projection places him around $325 million, while sustained dominance and faster purse growth could carry him beyond $520 million. Those estimates do not include FedEx Cup bonuses or endorsements.<\/p>\n

The greatest uncertainty may not involve Scheffler\u2019s game. He has said he would stop playing professionally if golf began affecting his home life<\/a>. Injuries, family priorities or a reduced schedule could shorten the projection.<\/p>\n

If Scheffler remains healthy and motivated, however, $450 million represents the most defensible projection. The record he just broke could eventually become a figure that another golfer spends a generation chasing.<\/p>\n
