But on Sunday, he came into the final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta three shots back and played his way to his second FedEx Cup.

The victory was the 22nd win of Scheffler’s career, his third of 2026 and his second in 14 days. It also gave him his second FedEx Cup title; in 19 years of that trophy, only two other men had ever won it more than once. He joins Tiger Woods, who won twice, and Rory McIlroy, who won it three times, as the only multiple-time winners.

Hovland, who won the FedEx Cup in 2023, was going for the same thing, but he gave it back with three bogeys.

Scottie Scheffler poses with the trophy after winning the Tour Championship in Atlanta to secure his second FedEx Cup.

                                    Brett Davis, Imagn Images

Scheffler pocketed a cool $10 million for winning the 2026 Tour Championship, bringing his career PGA Tour earnings to $130,390,661 and moving him into first all time on the career money list over Tiger Woods, who has earned $120,999,166.

Here are the winners and losers of the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup playoffs:

WINNERSScottie Scheffler

He shot a final round of 66 to win by three strokes at 16 under, coming from three shots back. He scored his 22nd career victory, third of 2026, second in 14 days and his second career FedEx Cup title. And he took home $10 million as the Tour Championship winner, bringing his career total to $130,390,661 and passing Tiger Woods for first on the all-time money list.

Ryan Gerard

He closed with a 72 and still finished alone in third at 12 under in his first Tour Championship. Gerard, 27, hasn’t won this season and only owns one PGA Tour title — at the Barracuda, played opposite the British Open. He shared the 36-hole lead and started Sunday one back.

Ryan Gerard hits the ball from the 12th fairway during the final round Sunday of the Tour Championship in Atlanta. Gerard finished third.

                                    Brett Davis, Imagn Images

        Adam Scott

At 46, he was the oldest man in the field. He was alone in third after finishing the 10th hole Sunday, but three bogeys cost him. He finished with a 2-over72 and tied for 11th. Scott won this tournament in 2006 and hasn’t won anything since the 2020 Genesis Invitational, but this was still a good showing for the veteran golfer.

Alex Fitzpatrick

The rookie shot 66 — matching Scheffler and Xander Schauffele for the low round of the day — and tied for fourth at 11 under. He was the 24th of 30 players to qualify. His older brother Matt, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, shot 73 and finished 17 spots and six shots behind him, so he wins family bragging rights at least.

Min Woo Lee

He opened with a 62 and hit 16 of 18 greens, then shot 73 in Friday’s second round and looked done. But, he turned it around and played the weekend at 66 and 68, tying for fourth in his first appearance.

LOSERSViktor Hovland

He led by three when Sunday’s final round started started, bogeyed the first, 13th and 17th holes to cough up his lead. He eventually finished three back of Scheffler at 13-under, and lost more than $5 million — taking home $4,375,000 as the runner-up compared to Scheffler’s $10 million. Hovland won the FedEx Cup in 2023 and would have been the third man to win it twice.

Viktor Hovland hits the ball on the fourth hole during the final round of the Tour Championship. Hovland finished second.

                                    Brett Davis, Imagn Images

        Chris Gotterup

He was alone at 13 under with five holes to play and ended up shooting 71, falling into the seven-man tie for fourth. Gotterup won twice this season — at the Sony Open and the John Deere — and arrived as the No. 6 seed. He had the best position of anyone to chase Scheffler and went the wrong way.

Matt Fitzpatrick

A 73 on the last day, a tie for 21st at 5 under, and a younger brother 17 spots ahead of him. Tough pill to swallow.

Wyndham Clark

He won the BMW Championship seven days ago. He shot 72and finished 5 under for the tournament, tied for 21st in a field of 29.

Gary Woodland

He closed with a 77 — the worst single round anyone played all week — and finished last a 2 over par. He started the day tied for 22nd.

It was not a typical Scottie Scheffler win.
