Georgia men\u2019s golf entered the final round of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard, but the Bulldogs couldn\u2019t carry their momentum through Tuesday\u2019s final round.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The highlight of the tournament for the Bulldogs as a team was a 7-under second round, allowing Georgia to finish Day 2 in second place. The Bulldogs would then go on to shoot 1-over as a team and total 281 strokes in the third round to finish tied for sixth in their opening tournament of the fall season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Senior Grayson Wood led Georgia\u2019s final round effort, firing a 3-under round to climb 18 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 20th, the best finish by a Bulldog.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Freshmen Mason Howell and Hamilton Coleman each tied for 23rd, while Drew Woolworth finished tied for 30th. The young trio helped Georgia finish with a tournament-best 54 birdies. Despite falling short of the team title, Georgia showed flashes of its potential in its first tournament of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Along with new faces playing on the course, the Bulldogs were led by head coach Mookie DeMoss for the first time following his taking over the program after Chris Haack\u2019s retirement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201c[It was a] solid start to the fall,\u201d DeMoss said. \u201c It’s always good to compete. The guys did a lot of good stuff, and we’ve each got specific areas we want to get better. We’re excited to get back to work and get ready for Minnesota.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Tennessee captured the team title, highlighted by a 14-under final round. Memphis, Chattanooga, North Carolina and Vanderbilt would round out the top five.\u00a0<\/p>\n
