Golf insider Dan Rapaport revealed he starts every interview with a pro golfer with the same question. “What is the state of Collin Morikawa’s golf game?” asked Rapaport on S2 Ep. 10 of Dan on Golf. Morikawa reframed it.<\/p>\n

“Like what scale? Like, I think belief scale it\u2019s through the roof. Actual skill, it\u2019s coming together,” Morikawa said with a smile.<\/p>\n

Being a two-time major winner, having won the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship, he is very familiar with the top level of golf.<\/p>\n

It is partly for this reason that the recent series of events has been difficult for him. “The body\u2019s been in a weird spot like the past few years. It\u2019s no excuse\u2026 It\u2019s all on me,” he admitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe feel is still there… That\u2019s the hardest thing\u2026 when the body doesn\u2019t do what you want\u2026 it makes golf so frustrating,” Collin Morikawa told Dan Rapaport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Still, he ended on a clear note: \u201cWe\u2019re on the up.\u201d And that’s a good thing because the nature of the injury has cost him in the last few years.<\/p>\n

Collin Morikawa\u2019s Injury Timeline and Impact on His Game<\/p>\n

Collin Morikawa\u2019s issues haven\u2019t come from one major setback. It\u2019s been more gradual than that.<\/p>\n

Back in September 2021 at the Ryder Cup, he revealed he had been dealing with a back injury but said he was \u201call clear\u201d after treatment. It did not appear to be a big challenge at the time. <\/p>\n

However, in 2023, the issue came up once more when he had to pull out of the Memorial Tournament due to a back spasm. That was the most obvious indication that it hasn’t completely gone away.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve hurt my back a few times, and then that goes into the flexibility\u2026 my swing is based on how my wrists work, but also being able to clear out really well. And if I can\u2019t clear out\u2026 I\u2019m in block fades or pull draws,” Collin Morikawa admitted.<\/p>\n

While the T54 finish at the Phoenix Open wasn’t ideal, the 2026 season has just begun.<\/p>\n
