The Italian tees it up at this week\u2019s Omega European Masters in Crans-Montana off the back of a near-miss at the Turkish Airlines Open, and with a fresh eye on where his game sits five years on from that joint-fourth at Torrey Pines.<\/p>\n
Guido Migliozzi\u2019s game has always had a highlight reel quality to it \u2013 a T4 finish at the 2021 US Open, an Open Championship debut that same summer, four DP World Tour titles built on the kind of iron play that makes other pros stop and watch. But heading into this week\u2019s Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, the 29-year-old Italian is talking less about moments and more about repetition.<\/p>\n
\u201cStriking a good ball is something that any pro golfer can do,\u201d Migliozzi says, \u201cbut if you can do it time and time again, over the course of an entire tournament, you have a real chance of winning.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a fairly humble way to describe a five-year stretch that started with one of the more eye-catching breakthroughs in recent European golf, but it tracks with where his season currently sits. A close finish at the Turkish Airlines Open has him arriving in the Swiss Alps with form he\u2019s happy to talk up, even if a maiden win in over two years is still the item missing from the CV.<\/p>\n
Five years on from the US Open breakthrough<\/p>\n
That US Open week in 2021 remains the reference point whether Migliozzi wants it to be or not \u2013 it\u2019s still the line every profile of him opens with, this one included. But he\u2019s fairly clear-eyed about the gap between the moment and the years that followed it. <\/p>\n
\u201cAfter the US Open, maybe people expected things to happen very quickly, but golf doesn\u2019t really work like that,\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019m now using time to my advantage. I\u2019\u2019m letting my game develop naturally and I\u2019m learning from all the ups and downs. I understand my game and myself a lot better.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the kind of line that could read as deflection from a player short on recent silverware, except Migliozzi\u2019s underlying results \u2013 four European Tour wins, a Race to Dubai push for a PGA Tour card, a top-40 world ranking peak \u2013 suggest a career built on the long game rather than one big week.<\/p>\n
Inside Crans-sur-Sierre and this year\u2019s field<\/p>\n
Crans-Montana is a fitting stage for that theme. The Crans-sur-Sierre course, sitting at roughly 1,500 metres in the Valais Alps, is one of the more distinctive stops on the DP World Tour calendar: thinner air means the ball travels noticeably further than sea level, and precise club selection matters as much as raw distance. This year\u2019s field leans into that DP World Tour pedigree too, with defending champion Thriston Lawrence back to defend, alongside Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Matt Wallace and an ageless Miguel \u00c1ngel Jim\u00e9nez making his 36th appearance at the event.<\/p>\n
Under pressure, Migliozzi points to composure over mechanics. \u201cEspecially under pressure in critical moments, you really have to be unwavering in your concentration,\u201d he says \u2013 again, less about a signature shot than about holding a line for four rounds on a course that punishes any lapse in club selection.<\/p>\n
Omega partnership extended through 2028<\/p>\n
The week also carries some added significance for Migliozzi off the course. He arrives in Crans-Montana having just extended his partnership with tournament title sponsor Omega through to 2028, a deal that lands in the brand\u2019s 25th year backing the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have to say, I love wearing the watches in my day-to-day life,\u201d he says. \u201cEach timepiece has a special story and is a real conversation piece amongst friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
Migliozzi also talks to Omega\u2019s emphasis on precision and consistency in much the same language he uses to describe his own game.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also a partnership that motivates me,\u201d he says. \u201cI want to push my own boundaries and inject some of that OMEGA distinction into my game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Migliozzi is just as direct about what the brand represents to him beyond the wrist, which goes some way to explaining why a deal through 2028 made sense for both sides.<\/p>\n
Migliozzi on TGL and growing the game<\/p>\n
Asked about TGL, the tech-driven, prime-time golf league that\u2019s brought stadium screens and simulator holes to the PGA Tour side of the sport, Migliozzi is supportive from a distance rather than an insider. <\/p>\n
As a DP World Tour player, he hasn\u2019t been part of a format built primarily around PGA Tour rosters, but he\u2019s in favour of anything that gets new eyes on the sport. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m supportive of any opportunity that connects younger fans and players to the world of golf,\u201d he says. \u201cIt gives even more visibility to the sport and gives it another chance to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chasing a place on the Crans-Montana honours board<\/p>\n
For now, though, the focus is the fairways of Crans-sur-Sierre and a course record book that already includes the likes of Seve Ballesteros, Colin Montgomerie and Ernie Els. <\/p>\n
Migliozzi won\u2019t be short of motivation to add his own name to it this week.<\/p>\n
