TaylorMade invested in the future.

Woods is entering his senior year of high school. He’s committed to play at Florida State next year. The news that Woods, an accomplished junior player and the son of Tiger Woods, is joining TaylorMade as an NIL athlete is newsworthy, but the bigger story isn’t that Charlie Woods is getting free clubs or even that he might be getting paid to play them.

It’s about what TaylorMade believes comes next.

Charlie Woods is hardly the first elite junior golfer to receive equipment and support from a major manufacturer. Players talented enough to earn scholarships to top Division I programs rarely pay for clubs, golf balls, shoes or gloves. Companies have long viewed those players as worthwhile investments.

An NIL agreement, however, is different. Golfweek spoke with the head men’s coach of a Top 20 Division I team on Friday and he estimated that only 25 to 30 men’s players have a deal with a manufacturer that pays them money. But this isn’t simply an equipment relationship. It’s a marketing relationship, and that’s where Charlie Woods stands apart.

Explore how to live where you love to play Access community guides, golf real estate insights, trusted agent connections, and content built for passionate golfers.

If Charlie’s last name weren’t Woods, would he still have a full bag of TaylorMade clubs? Quite possibly. Would he have an NIL agreement? That’s a much more difficult case to make, even though he has one elite junior event title under his belt.

That isn’t meant to diminish Charlie’s accomplishments. He’s earned his opportunity to compete at one of the nation’s premier college golf programs, and he’ll be playing a schedule that should expose him to some of the best amateur competition in the world.

But TaylorMade isn’t evaluating him solely on tournament results. It’s evaluating his audience.

Few amateur golfers receive the attention Charlie does. Every significant junior event he enters attracts cameras, social media clips and headlines. Once he arrives at Florida State, that spotlight is only going to grow. If he eventually turns professional, the audience will follow.

That’s the kind of long-term runway companies dream about.

TaylorMade has already shown a willingness to think beyond junior rankings. In early 2025, it signed Kai Trump, President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, who is a freshman at Miami and who also has an NIL agreement. She’s another athlete whose visibility extends well beyond competitive golf. Together, these signings suggest TaylorMade is looking beyond scoreboards and investing in athletes who can connect with large audiences over many years.

There is, of course, another layer to Charlie’s story.

His father changed the golf equipment business. For decades, manufacturers competed for opportunities to associate themselves with Tiger Woods because of the attention, credibility and influence he brought to the game. Now, however, Tiger’s competitive appearances have become increasingly rare, and no one knows how many more PGA Tour or major starts remain in his career, if any, but Charlie represents something different. He offers the possibility of a relationship measured not in months, but in decades.

That doesn’t mean TaylorMade expects him to become the next Tiger Woods. No company can make that assumption, and no player should have to carry the burden of that expectation.

What TaylorMade can reasonably expect is that Charlie Woods will remain one of the most recognizable young figures in golf as his career unfolds. Whether he’s competing at the NCAA championships, contending on a professional tour or simply continuing to develop under the brightest spotlight in amateur golf, people are going to watch.

That’s ultimately what this partnership acknowledges.

TaylorMade isn’t simply extending an equipment deal to a talented junior golfer. Everyone knows that. It’s betting that one of the sport’s most recognizable names will continue to matter for years to come.

In that sense, this agreement isn’t really about Charlie Woods’ golf bag.

It’s about TaylorMade deciding that the Charlie Woods’ story still has plenty of chapters left to write.

David Dusek is a senior writer at Golfweek covering equipment.

Updated Sept. 4, 2026, 3:47 p.m. ET TaylorMade signed Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, to a name,…

[3016
58,59,95,96,65,102,69,67,187,353,2482,62
post-61641","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-taylormade","tag-accessfree","tag-sourcegolfweek","tag-sstssportsgolfequipment","tag-sstsnequipment","tag-taggolf","tag-taggolf-equipment","tag-tagoverall-positive","tag-tagsports-news","tag-tagstory-highlights-ai-enabled","tag-tagtiger-woods","tag-taylormade","tag-typestory
["GET
