The Americans will face the International Team at Medinah Country Club. The competition runs from September 24 through September 27. Brandt Snedeker will lead the American side as captain. He takes over the team after the Americans won the 2024 Presidents Cup. The United States has dominated this competition for decades. The Americans have won 13 of the previous 15 Presidents Cups. The International Team owns the only victory during that stretch. That win came at Royal Melbourne in 1998. The two sides also tied at the 2003 Presidents Cup in South Africa. Therefore, the Americans have not lost this event since 1998. Still, the International Team believes this year’s roster can challenge the Americans.

Scheffler Leads Team USA

Scottie Scheffler remains the biggest name on the American roster. The world No. 1 earned his place through automatic qualification. He also enters Medinah after another dominant season. Scheffler recently won the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. He also captured the first playoff event in Memphis. This will mark Scheffler’s third Presidents Cup appearance. However, his career record currently stands at 3-5-1. That record does not reflect his current standing in professional golf. Scheffler remains the centerpiece of the American lineup. Cameron Young also earned an automatic spot. He joins Scheffler, Wyndham Clark and Sam Burns. Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa complete the six automatic qualifiers.

Snedeker Makes His Picks

Snedeker had six captain’s picks to complete his roster. The captain selected Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele and Jackson Koivun. Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Jacob Bridgeman also made the team. Schauffele gives Team USA another proven Presidents Cup performer. He helped the Americans win the 2024 competition. Thomas also brings extensive experience in team competitions. His Presidents Cup history could become valuable at Medinah. Cantlay adds another veteran presence to the roster. He also has plenty of experience playing alongside Schauffele. Meanwhile, Gotterup, Bridgeman and Koivun provide younger energy. Koivun stands out as one of the most intriguing selections. The 21-year-old made his Presidents Cup debut after winning on the PGA Tour. He earned his first Tour victory in only his third career start. That gives Snedeker another young player with significant confidence.

The Complete Team USA Roster

The 12-player American roster features a strong mix of experience and youth.

Automatic qualifiers:

Scottie Scheffler

Cameron Young

Wyndham Clark

Sam Burns

Russell Henley

Captain’s picks:

Collin Morikawa

Chris Gotterup

Xander Schauffele

Jackson Koivun

Justin Thomas

Patrick Cantlay

Jacob Bridgeman

The roster gives Snedeker several possible combinations. That flexibility could prove crucial during team matches. Four-ball and foursomes require different approaches. Therefore, Snedeker must find pairings that complement each player’s strengths. The Americans also have several players with previous Presidents Cup experience. That experience should help during pressure-filled matches.

Some Surprising Omissions

Snedeker’s selections also created several surprises. Ryan Gerard and Ben Griffin both missed the final roster. Griffin spent much of the season inside the automatic qualifying spots. However, his position changed during the final qualifying stretch. He eventually fell outside the top six. J.J. Spaun also missed the team despite winning the 2025 U.S. Open. He withdrew from the Tour Championship because of a sore right shoulder. Those omissions show just how difficult Snedeker’s decisions became. The captain reportedly considered roughly 20 to 22 players. Ultimately, he chose experience, recent form and team potential.

A Familiar Supporting Cast

Snedeker will not handle the pressure alone. Jim Furyk, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Gary Woodland will serve as captain’s assistants. Furyk captained the American team during the 2024 Presidents Cup. Bradley recently served as the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain. Simpson returns for his second stint as a Presidents Cup assistant. Woodland joins the leadership group after serving on the 2019 Presidents Cup team. That group gives Snedeker plenty of team-event experience. It also provides different perspectives inside the American locker room.

Medinah Provides the Stage

Medinah Country Club will host the Presidents Cup for the first time. Course No. 3 has already hosted several major championships. Those events include three U.S. Opens and two PGA Championships. The venue sits roughly 25 miles west of Chicago. It should provide a massive stage for the international competition. Team USA enters as the clear historical favorite. However, history does not guarantee another victory. The Americans still need to execute across four days. They must also find chemistry among 12 individual stars.

That challenge makes the 2026 Presidents Cup especially interesting. Scheffler, Schauffele, Thomas and Morikawa give Team USA plenty of firepower. Young players like Koivun and Bridgeman add another dimension. Now, Snedeker must turn that talent into a cohesive team. If the Americans accomplish that goal, they could extend their remarkable Presidents Cup dominance. However, the International Team will have something to say about that. The stage is set at Medinah. Now, Team USA must prove it can deliver once again.

This team has the capability to win another President Cup and keep the dominance going.

                                            About Post Author

Bradley Walker

Bradley Walker (VP) and Head of our Florida operations for NGSC Sports, bringing extensive experience across collegiate, professional, and amateur athletics.
