{"id":799,"date":"2026-05-23T15:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T15:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/799\/"},"modified":"2026-05-23T15:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T15:38:10","slug":"haig-point-in-south-carolina-announces-master-plan-to-renovate-courses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/799\/","title":{"rendered":"Haig Point in South Carolina announces master plan to renovate courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 23, 2026, 11:00 a.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Haig Point Club and Community Association \u2013 reachable only by boat on Daufuskie Island, S.C. \u2013 has announced a multi-year investment initiative that will include upgrades to its two golf courses, Signature and Osprey. Named Project Harmony, the $40 million initiative at the member-owned club will steer all growth in golf, infrastructure and residential development.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:439px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/90181481007-golfhaigpointsouthcarolina.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Signature Course at Haig Point Club and Community in South Carolina is slated to be renovated by original designer Rees Jones.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Operating as a private club that allows limited guest play, Haig Point offers the two courses designed by Rees Jones, both of which opened in the late 1980s. The Signature course features 20 greens, with the Nos. 8 and 17 each offering two greens for play. The Osprey is a nine-hole course. Jones will return to lead the work on both courses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">As described in a media release announcing Project Harmony, plans for the Signature courses include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Reshaping, realigning and laser-leveling all tees<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">With the exception of holes 1 and 15, all greens will be partially rebuilt with an emphasis on regrading all approaches<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Complete rebuild of greens 1 and 15<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Reshaping all bunkers to a modern style<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Bunkers reconstructed using Bunker Solutions<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Fairways regraded<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Greens to be re-grassed with TifEagle Bermuda.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Fairways, tees and rough to be re-grassed with Tahoma 31<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Vegetation management in and around wetlands to open views<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">Cart path repair and maintenance as needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cThis is not about reinventing the course,\u201d Don W. Hunter Jr., Haig Point\u2019s CEO and general manager, said in the media release. \u201cIt\u2019s about restoring and refining it in a way that brings it back to its full potential while ensuring it performs at a high level for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Need a news break? <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":body nav (play)|e|auto spike click:6|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_sp_a\" href=\"https:\/\/play.usatoday.com\/?itm_source=SPIKE&amp;itm_campaign=PLAYSPIKE&amp;itm_medium=ONSITE\">Check out the all new PLAY hub with puzzles, games and more!<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The plans for the Osprey Course include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul\">\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">New irrigation system<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">21 new forward tee options to create a new par-3 course<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_b_ul_li\">New short game practice area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The work on the two courses will be conducted in three phases over three years, so members will always have at least 18 holes to play. The Osprey Course work begins in late 2026 and runs to November 2027, followed by the first 10 holes of the Signature Course in early 2028 to November that year, then the final 10 holes of Signature Course in 2029. Duininck Golf will handle the construction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Project Harmony also will create a foundation for residential growth as the community aims to add 25 new homes per year. Also on the list are a new wellness and fitness center, expansion of racquet and pickleball facilities and road improvements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cHaig Point already has all the touchpoints of an exceptional golf and club experience,\u201d Hunter said. \u201cThis initiative, agreed upon by 77 percent of the membership, is about polishing what is already a very strong golf course and modernizing it for today\u2019s game, while creating a more complete and flexible playing experience for our members and enhancing the island lifestyle that is uniquely Haig Point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_cp_cw_i\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/83532056007-gwb-logo-bandon-dunes.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/staff\/5532928001\/jason-lusk\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Lusk<\/a>\u00a0is Golfweek&#8217;s travel and golf course architecture editor, as well as the magazine&#8217;s creative director.
