Some of golf\u2019s biggest stars are in Raleigh for the UNC Health Championship, part of the Korn Ferry Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The event kicked off Thursday <\/a>at Raleigh Country Club off of Donald Ross Drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n While players take center stage, more than 750 volunteers help make the event possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cLast week we set all the leaderboards up and put up the boundaries,\u201d said James McCullers Jr. \u201cThis week we clean up trash, get water out, and help out with the buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n The Southeast Raleigh High School quarterback is part of the volunteer team helping power tournament week behind the scenes.\u00a0<\/p>\n McCullers Jr. said he enjoys watching the golfers prepare for their swing and line up their shots.<\/p>\n \u201cHow they hit under pressure; it\u2019s cool to watch them play,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n McCullers Jr.\u2019s father and coach, James McCullers Sr., told WRAL the volunteering is teaching his son and teammates about more than sports.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cDefinitely leadership,\u201d McCullers Sr. said. \u201cBuilding the leaderboards is fun because we have a lot of different kids and different skill levels, and we are all trying to put everything together and make it work.\u201d<\/p>\n The strength and conditioning coach said the experience has inspired his players to try something new.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThinking outside of the box and outside of football, and what are you going to do after football?\u201d McCullers Sr. said. \u201cA lot of kids tell me they want to pick up golf now.\u201d<\/p>\n The team shared the event has been a positive way to give back to their community while meeting new people, saying \u201cIt\u2019s like family.\u201d<\/p>\n McCullers Sr. continued, \u201cWe love parking the cars too and meeting everybody. Everybody is talking and everybody is bonding.\u201d<\/p>\n Proceeds from this year\u2019s event support the future NC Children\u2019s hospital, along with several nonprofit and health-focused organizations including the Grayson Murray Foundation<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
