May half-term is in full swing, and the sunny weather has made it a great opportunity to explore what Merseyside has to offer. From beautiful beaches to family-friendly attractions, there’s plenty to choose from in and around the region.<\/p>\n

One park that’s perfect for kids to blow off some steam is Hesketh Park in Southport<\/a>, which is located around a 25-minute walk from the town’s train station. Alternatively, the park is around a 45-minute drive from Liverpool city centre<\/a>, with on-street parking available just outside the gates.<\/p>\n

Hesketh Park, which is one of Southport’s largest parks, dates back to 1868 and is open all-year round to visitors. The park is home to a mini golf course, cafe, large play area and trails for families to explore.<\/p>\n

Hesketh Park is also home to a historic observatory, which is opened on a regular basis for visitors thanks to the efforts of volunteers from the Southport Astronomical Society.<\/p>\n

Its large play area has two climbing frames, which are sized to offer something for both older and younger children.<\/p>\n

If you’re into gardening then there’s bound to be something to keep you inspired. The park has the American Garden, Clock Garden, Specimen Garden, Herbaceous Walk and Mixed Flower Garden to explore.<\/p>\n

There’s also the Kitchen Garden, which is operated by Bridge Inn Community Farm as a garden nursery providing freshly grown vegetables, perennials and seasonal bedding, with a shop on site.<\/p>\n

Hesketh Park cafe offers visitors breakfast barms, burgers, waffles and drinks and there’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. More information can be found on the Visit Southport website.<\/p>\n

Around a 10-minute drive away is Victoria Park, set to host the Southport Food and Drink Festival from Friday, May 29 until Sunday, May 31.<\/p>\n

The free event will offer more than 100 food, drink and artisan traders. With street food from around the world, local producers, live music and a family zone, the 2026 festival is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet, with more than 40,000 visitors expected.<\/p>\n

Attendees will be able to explore a selection of global cuisines, including Asian street food to Caribbean classics, churros, crepes, gourmet burgers, paella, curries and more.<\/p>\n
