A few months ago, and nearly a full two years after she found an element of peace after a traumatic journey of infertility and loss, Elizabeth Day got an email out of the blue.

“The fertility clinic that we did egg donation through kept being in touch with me, just with emails like, ‘Do you want to meet our expert to discuss surrogacy?’” Day says. “In the end, I messaged them saying I never wanted to be contacted again, and to their credit, someone called me up from that clinic and said, ‘I’m sorry for what you went through. It was not appropriate, the way you were treated.’”
