All eyes are usually on Claudia Winkleman when it comes to The Traitors.

Every year the Strictly presenter trades sequined dresses and stilettos for her Highland chic wardrobe of kilts, chunky jumpers, and turtlenecks.

But this year the host, 53, is being challenged in the fashion stakes as several very glamorous stars move into Ardross Castle for The Celebrity Traitors, which launches on Wednesday.

Insiders have told The Mail on Sunday the celebrities, who include actress Celia Imrie, singer Charlotte Church and presenter Clare Balding, have dressed to impress.

One source, who was on set, said: ‘This is the most stylish series of The Traitors ever.

‘The celebrities have really brought their A-Game and were determined to look their best on camera. Many of them have hired personal stylists to ensure that they really stand out from the crowd.

‘Thousands have been spent on these outfits and they wanted to show them off. Some of them have leaned into their Highland surroundings with tartan and tweeds, while others have opted for high glam.

‘The game is very competitive, but the fashion war is even more so.’

In the opening episode, which airs at 9pm on BBC One, Thursday Murder Club star Ms Imrie, 73, leads the fashionistas.

She arrives at the castle wearing a Catherine Walker tartan coat with silk velvet collars and cuffs costing £14,900, which she wears over a £145 emerald green wrap dress by The Pretty Dress Company.

She’s not the only contestant to embrace traditional check with singer Cat Burns, 25, wearing a £450 Baracuta tartan jacket.

Clare Balding, 54, also brings high fashion to the castle wearing a £500 orange double-breasted blazer from British designer Holland Cooper, a company for which she is an ambassador.

However, Ms Imrie’s fellow passenger Joe Marler, 35, hadn’t read the memo.

The former England rugby player arrives in dungarees and a T-shirt, completing the building site labourer look with a plain beanie hat.

And one star not afraid to shop on the high street is EastEnders actress Tameka Empson, 48, who arrives in a £69 red peplum blazer with £39 trousers from River Island.

For her Traitors style, Winkleman, left, says she pairs ‘Cruella de Vil with a touch of Miss Trunchbull’.

Celebrities will be split into faithfuls and traitors and compete for a cash prize of up to £100,000 for their chosen charity.
