Full planning has been granted for Sluagh Hall to be repurposed into an entertainment centre.
Sluagh Hall is located directly across the street from the former Classic Movieplex, which closed in 2022.
It is all systems go for the team at Sluagh Hall after they received full planning permission to bring the silver screen back to Listowel.
Tom McElligott’s effort to convert the old FCA Hall into a cinema and family entertainment centre got an initial go-ahead from the council in late August.
The council decision received no appeals and full permission was granted on September 23.
Mr McElligott and his team said the good news of the grant of full planning permission arrived “just in time for the races!”
“We would like to sincerely thank KCC and the People of Listowel who kindly supported our application. It is very much appreciated,” he said.
The planning for the development of the entertainment centre, inclusive of two cinema screens, on upper William Street should help to revitalise the area. It currently has four significant derelict buildings, including Sluagh Hall.
The hall was purchased by Mr McElligott only nine months ago and he and his team created the detailed design for the centre, which will also have a children’s arcade, games room, a food truck and offer ‘trishaw’ Greenway tours.
The next step is to attain the Fire Safety Certificate and building commencement notice for Sluagh Hall, which requires a detailed online submission that all the plans meet building regulations. This will take close to 12 weeks.
