The Duchess of Sussex‘s makeup artist, Daniel Martin, has revealed the secret behind Meghan’s ‘radiant’ Paris Fashion Week look.

The Montecito-based royal, 44, surprised the fashion community last weekend when she made an appearance at the Balenciaga show in support of the brand’s latest creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Meghan hired the help of Martin, her longtime friend and makeup artist who completed her 2018 wedding day look to Prince Harry, to master her complexion for the event.

The artist, who appeared in the duchess’s Netflix series, used an unusual technique of combining Meghan’s foundation with a £83 Longevity serum from luxury Japanese skincare brand Tatcha to create a refreshed look.

He took to Instagram to break down his technique, but first thanked his followers for their kind words. ‘I want to come on and say thank you so much for all the love and support, it’s been so overwhelming to be honest.’

Martin, Tatcha’s global director of artistry and education, continued, ‘I did my usual skin prep with her, which was a lot of Tatcha, and I’m not saying that because I’m with the brand, but it’s a skincare ritual that has been in my kit, and I [have] used on all my clients for years.’

‘The switch up was that I actually mixed the Tatcha Longevity serum in with the foundation, and I think that added another layer of radiance to her makeup, which made her look even more juicy and glowy.

‘I use foundation a lot with my hands, so when I apply it, I’m applying it like a massage… I’ll go in with a brush to add more coverage, and then I’ll use a sponge to blend it out.’

He continued, ‘Regarding powder, she has powder only in the T-zone of her face. There’s no loose powder all over. I just wanted to knock out the shine that happens in the middle of her forehead and around her nose, and the powder I used was the Paris Berlin press powder.

‘They’re a makeup brand local to Paris, you can only get it in Paris, I believe, and every time I’m in Paris, I always go there to shop. It’s like a theatrical industry makeup store, which is awesome.

‘Her cheek is the Tom Ford contour cream. I only use the contour; I kind of use it like a bronzer, and on top of it was the Tatcha serum stick, so it gave that added radiance to that.

‘We just wanted to keep everything light, fresh, and radiant. She just flew in, and your skin gets dehydrated from the plane, so I just wanted to bring some hydration back into her skin and just bring some life to it.

‘Her lipstick, I had several Tom Ford lipstick options, and the one that she chose was iconic nude, which is like this beautiful mauve-y pink, and we use Makeup Forever lip liner, and that was pretty much it.

‘Her eyeshadow was just browns, I did a halo effect, [and] mascara. I introduced her to this Mac mascara, which she loves. It’s all about beautiful, structured brows, keeping everything fresh and polished.

‘When you come from fashion like I do, it’s not about the makeup, it’s about just looking beautiful, radiant, polished.’

He concluded, ‘I would love to get her in a lip one day, Meghan if you’re watching this, let’s do a lip, I’d love to see you in a lip.’

The creative added in the post’s caption, ‘Wow- what an overwhelming reaction you all have had to this look of Meghan’s last Saturday night for the Balenciaga show!

‘It’s been a whirlwind but I wanted to just quickly give a few insights behind the skincare/makeup approach we took. Hope this helps for anyone who wants to recreate at home! Sending love.’

Meghan was seen at the show for luxury fashion line Balenciaga last Saturday, mingling with fellow guests including Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour, actress Anne Hathaway and film director Baz Luhrmann, with whom she exchanged a kiss.

Cutting an elegant figure in a stylish white oversized button-through ensemble with an incorporated cape, the star had a full style squad – and a luxury place to reside – for the fleeting visit.

Meghan, who resides in Montecito with Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, checked in with her entourage at the luxurious Hôtel Plaza Athénée, part of the Dorchester group, in the city.

And the Duchess seemed committed to speaking the local language, sharing a clip of her 100-day streak on learning app Duolingo.

The former Suits star studied French for six years, but said in 2016 she’d lost her fluency with the language and wanted to re-learn it, saying it was on her New Year’s resolution list ‘every year’.

On social media on Sunday afternoon, Meghan shared how her glamorous weekend overseas had panned out in a short video montage, showing the moment she arrived in the city to an affectionate note left for her on a hotel notepad ahead of her heading out to the show.

With three pairs of feet seen perched on the backseat of a luxury car, it seems Meghan arrived in the city on Saturday afternoon, with Paris under blue skies as the car drove past the Arc de Triomphe.

From there, it was on to the five-star Hôtel Plaza Athénée, which is part of the highly luxe Dorchester hotel group and where suites costs thousands of pounds a night.

Blooms of white hydrangeas were pictured in the suite where the Duchess was staying.

There were glimpses of the team tasked with making the royal look glamorous just hours after the long flight from LA – and also fries, omlettes and other snacks to keep the former royal sustained for her moment in the spotlight.

Meghan wore her chocolate brown tresses in an effortlessly elegant slicked back bun and minimal makeup.

The Duchess cut an elegant figure in the stylish white oversized button-through ensemble with an incorporated cape and, according to some observers at least, certainly had the strut of a fashionista.

The mother-of-two paired the look with a black suede Balenciaga bag, glitzy oval diamond earrings and £745 black Balenciaga Knife heels.

Appearing amongst high-profile celebrity guests such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, FKA Twigs and Anne Hathaway, Meghan had her own catwalk moment as she channelled her inner supermodel in front of numerous cameras while exiting the star-studded show.

She was previously a regular at New York and Toronto Fashion Weeks whilst working as an actress on US drama series Suits.

A spokesperson for Meghan told PEOPLE: ‘She has long admired [Pierpaolo’s] craftsmanship and modern elegance, and tonight was no different.

‘This evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga.’

According to the publication, the pair have worked together closely over the years and would often ‘collaborate’ on designs for ‘key moments’.
