Car sales across Greece increased by a considerable 20.7% in September this year, according to figures released on Friday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). Last month, 21,642 cars (new or used imports) were registered for the first time, compared to 17,935 in the same month of 2024.

This rise in September is somewhat unusual, as car sales typically surge in late winter and spring when companies prepare for the summer season. In contrast, September 2024 had seen a 5.6% decrease compared to the same month in 2023.

New car registrations reached 13,412 last month, compared to 10,357 in September 2024, marking an increase of 29.5%.

In the first nine months of the year, 200,034 cars (new and used imports) were registered for the first time, compared to 190,692 during the same period in 2024 – an annual increase of 4.9%. For comparison, January-September 2024 had recorded a 3.6% rise over the corresponding period of 2023.

New cars alone totaled 121,237 in the first three quarters of this year, compared to 116,756 in the same period of 2024, an increase of 3.8%.

Meanwhile, in September, 7,172 motorcycles over 50 cc (new and used imports) were registered, compared to 7,865 in the same month last year, showing a year-on-year decrease of 8.8%, according to ELSTAT.
