On the 10th anniversary of League of Legends, Riot Games shared information about the expansion of the IP, where the team would be growing their franchise in the form of more games, shows, and all sorts of cool things. This was before the time the team had earned the right to the “s” in their studio title, and it was a big thing for everyone looking forward to expanding their knowledge and love for the Runeterra universe.

Back then, several games were announced to be in the early stages of development, and the 2D fighting game taking place in the League of Legends universe was a big one at the time. We got early looks at Darius fighting against Ahri as a teaser, and it was a long journey from the first glance to the launch that we have today.

2XKO since has changed a lot, embracing its Arcane and League of Legends roots and doubling down on the lore and narrative. While it has had some troubles and issues that have seen it struggle leading up to its launch, such as an unimpressive launch roster consisting of only nine characters in the open beta, the game has launched globally.

To celebrate, the team shared the official cinematic, inviting players to get a glimpse at the title. Launched on the 7th of October, the video has accrued over four million views, and 2XKO is already well on its way to set itself apart in the genre it’s jumping into, being a fully free-to-play experience with cosmetic purchases.

2XKO joins Riot Games’ robust roster of live-service gamesl ike Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift, which is the League of Legends mobile equivalent. You can join for free and try out the game by downloading the Riot Games launcher!

2XKO is out as of the 7th of October 2025 on Windows PC.
