Martin Clunes has signed up to join a show based on his hit beloved drama, Doc Martin. Fox’s Best Medicine is the American remake of the long-running ITV show, which ran for 10 seasons and multiple specials between 2004 and 2022 before ending on Christmas Day 2022.
The Handmaid’s Tale and The Good Wife star Josh Charles has already been cast as lead character Dr Martin Best. Clunes will be joining in a guest role, playing Martin’s father, accomplished gastroenterologist Dr Robert Best.
His character description explains that Robert is a headstrong man who makes his stoic son seem warm by comparison.

The series sees Martin leave behind a successful career in Boston to work as a GP in a small village on the East Coast, where he spent his summers as a child.
But when his father arrives, everyone is put on edge, including his estranged sister played by Young Sheldon star Annie Potts.
Also joining the show is Grease icon Didi Conn, Suits star Abigail Spencer and Scream VI’s Josh Segarra.

It was previously reported that Fox believed Charles’s casting was the key to the success of Best Medicine’s pilot episode. The green light came in after the actor closed a deal to star in a full series.
Executive producer Ben Silverman said: “The entire Propagate team is thrilled to be working with Fox Entertainment on this extraordinary adaptation by Liz Tuccillo of the global hit Doc Martin.
“Josh Charles is the perfect lead for this brilliantly character-driven comedic procedural. Best Medicine is a world we’ll all want to be part of.”
Doc Martin is available to stream on ITVX.
