Gardai have issued an appeal for witnesses following the shocking incidentSligo University hospital

Gardai have issued an appeal after a student was allegedly attacked by another student during a school lunchtime break in Co Donegal.

The incident happened at approximately 1.30pm in the area of the Market Yard in Ballyshannon on Friday last.

Gardai say the student was approached from behind and assaulted a number of times by another student.

The victim had to be rushed to Sligo University Hospital for treatment.

However, Gardai say the injuries are not life-threatening.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed the incident happened at lunch-break and they believed another student was involved.

They are appealing for anybody who may have footage of the incident to contact them.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana commented: “We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch with Gardaí in Ballyshannon on 071 9858530.

“Should anyone have travelled in that area with a dash-cam around that time, we ask them to please make the footage available to us.”
