Sony Pictures is opening Mandalay Pictures’ new action movie Archangel starring Jim Caviezel, Olivia Thirlby, Garret Dillahunt and Shea Whigham on Nov. 6, 2026. This is the first we’re hearing about the project, particularly with Sony’s attachment. Plot details are under wraps.

Will Eubank directs (Land of Bad, Underwater) from a script by Chris Papasadero and Oscar nominee Randall Wallace (Braveheart, We Were Soldiers). Pic is produced by David Zelon and William Sherak. Peter Guber is executive producing.

Eubank recently directed Land Of Bad starring Liam Hemsworth and Russell Crowe and Underwater starring Kristen Stewart. His first feature, Love, was a breakout success, playing at numerous film festivals and won the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s “Best of the Fest” award. The filmmaker is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole LLP (JSSK).

Caviezel is best known for his turn as Jesus in Mel Gibson’s $610 million grossing The Passion of the Christ. He recently starred in the box-office breakout hit Sound of Freedom and previously led the long-running CBS series Person of Interest.

Thirlby broke out in the Oscar-winning movie Juno and her most recent credits include the Academy Award winning film Oppenheimer and TV series Y: The Last Man. The actress is represented by Verve, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren & Richman.

Dillahunt is best known for his performances in the Coen Brothers Oscar-winning drama No Country for Old Men, the critically acclaimed film Winter’s Bone, and the HBO series Deadwood. He recently appeared in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. The actor is repped by Independent Artist Group and D2 Management.

Whigham’s credits include Boardwalk Empire, True Detective, Joker, American Hustle, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, and multiple entries in the Fast & Furious franchise. He is repped by WME and Range.

Archangel will open against Warner Bros Animation’s The Cat in the Hat and an untitled Disney feature movie on Nov. 6 next year. The movie’s release date benefits from the Veteran’s Day holiday falling during the title’s opening week. There’s also great spacing between adult male-skewing titles, Archangel arriving three weeks after Street Fighter and four weeks before Violent Night 2.
