If your mobile bill in Czechia feels lighter these days, it’s not your imagination. Over the past few years, mobile data has become far more affordable, dropping almost two-thirds since 2020, according to the Czech Telecommunications Office (ČTÚ).
For households, that’s welcome news. Today, people pay 16.4 percent less than in 2020, with people paying about 1.33 haléř (or CZK 0.013) per megabyte.
A change in trends
At the same time, people are using more data than ever. The average SIM card consumed 12.5 GB per month in 2024, up 29 percent from the year before, the ČTÚ finds. Nearly 28 percent of users are now on unlimited data plans, reflecting a growing preference for worry-free usage.
Investment and market trends have played a key role. Forbes CZ reports that telecom revenues in 2024 reached CZK 124.4 billion, up 2.4 percent from the previous year. Operators invested 23.4 billion, with more than half going into mobile networks, supporting broader 5G coverage and faster, more reliable connections.
O2, T-Mobile, and Vodafone remain the market leaders, setting the benchmark for pricing at roughly 1.48 haléř per MB, while virtual operators (Tesco Mobile and GoMobil) charge slightly more, though have more flexible packages.

The priciest data in the EU
While Czech mobile users are paying less than ever, the country’s data prices are still high by European standards. An index from telecommunications comparison site BestBroadbandDeals found that Czechia has Central and Eastern Europe’s most expensive data in the region, with 1GB costing USD 3.12 (CZK 66) on average.
This is higher than in several Western European countries; Germany has an average price of CZK 45 for one gigabyte, people in Poland pay only CZK 7.80, and Italy boasts the cheapest mobile data overall, at just CZK 1.90.
Even Sweden (CZK 49 per gigabyte) and Luxembourg (CZK 35.8) offer cheaper mobile data than telcomms firms in Czechia.
In Europe, only Norway and Switzerland have more expensive data than Czechia.
Falling prices for bigger bundles
In Czechia, the lowest-cost plan (on average) with unlimited calls and 10 GB of data cost CZK 653 per month in 2024, down 18 percent over five years. Most users are on postpaid plans, which now make up nearly 78 percent of active SIMs, while prepaid top-ups are increasingly handled online rather than in shops.
For consumers, the practical lesson is clear. Data is more affordable and networks are stronger, but plan details still matter. Differences in per-megabyte costs, included allowances, and extras like roaming or family options can affect your monthly bill.
Comparing offers carefully remains the best way to make sure your mobile plan works for you, according to ČTÚ analysts and market experts.
