The trailer for a new Avatar project, titled Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films, has been released.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in United States theaters later this year. Directed by James Cameron, the sequel, which is the third film in the franchise following 2009’s Avatar and 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, will once again see Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their respective roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri.
Before that, however, fans will have a chance to learn a little bit more about how Cameron and the rest of his crew go about bringing Pandora to life in a new two-part documentary. Check out the trailer for Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films below:
When will Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films be available to stream?
Fire and Water: Making the Avatar Films will be available to stream on Disney+ on November 7, 2025.
Per Variety, the documentary will “offer a deep-dive into the making of 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water as well as a glimpse at the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and filmmakers. Some of the many bold-face names that appear in the film include Cameron, the late producer Jon Landau, and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, and Kate Winslet.”
Saldaña just recently urged Cameron to make a documentary about the making of the Avatar movies when speaking with Beyond Noise, as she said it would “finally give us a chance to explain, in a meticulous way, why performance capture is the most empowering form of acting.”
Fire and Ash — which also stars Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Oona Chaplin as Varang, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Jack Champion as Spider, Winslet as Ronal, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, and more — arrives on December 19, 2025, from 20th Century Studios. The first two movies are available to stream on Disney+ at this time.
