Hollyoaks star Gregory Finnegan has spoken out after today’s game-changing episode, which saw his character James Nightingale return from the dead. He left a cryptic comment that has left fans wondering what will happen next…

Darren was tempted to the dark side this week when he asked returning Warren to put out a hit on Tony to stop him ever finding out that he is Morgan’s biological father.

But, after trying and failing to earn the money to pay Warren through a poker game, he got a huge surprise when he spotted James – who is presumed to have died in a car explosion before the time jump.

James was so desperate to keep his survival a secret he gave Darren the money to pay Warren, with Tony set to be in grave danger on his wedding day.

But as James drove out of the village again, after being recognised by Peri, there’s still much more to find out about what happened to him and why he’s still alive. Will we get these all-important answers?

In a statement about his return, Greg said: “Turns out rumours of James’ demise were… greatly exaggerated. He’s always been one for a dramatic exit – and an even better entrance!

“Coming back for Hollyoaks’ 30th has been an absolute joy, and I’m blown away (pun intended) by the fans’ amazing reaction. Here’s to unfinished business, old habits, and a few more surprises yet to come… #FlightOfTheNightingale.”

Gregory also posted a photo of his original Hollyoaks work pass from 10 years ago on Instagram, leaving a cryptic comment as fans flocked to the comment section to share their shock and joy.

“I joined @hollyoaksofficial a week after their 20th anniversary and I departed in the run up to the show turning 30 years old… it was a helluva ride. Want to wish all the Cast, crew & incredible fans a wonderful and well deserved week of celebrations – looks like she’s not done surprising and delighting us just yet…..,” he wrote.

Last year, in the aftermath of James’ explosive exit, Gregory spoke exclusively to us about filming his character’s death – and he remarked that there was still a possibility he could be resurrected in future.

“Filming any exit was always going to be a tricky day to navigate,” he reflected. “I think it’s quite good when it’s taken out of your hands. When you’re leaving, you don’t want to die – but if you die, in theory there’s no going back.

“But I definitely didn’t shoot anything where you could see me dead, and this is soap after all! So if Hollyoaks manages to continue for a few years, who knows?”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
