In a different place and time, there might have been cause to pore over Heimir Hallgrimsson’s post-match comments on Tuesday evening and get animated about the inconsistencies.

The Icelander has been praised for his communication skills and clarity of delivery as Ireland manager but he is now beginning to say things that don’t really stand up to scrutiny.
