• MTN has relaunched its Sky contracts with the Sky Premium range.
  • The new contracts are for customers that require large amounts of airtime and data and come with bundled add-ons.
  • These now includes MTN Home Internet and Fibre packages.

Customers of MTN South Africa will now be able to subscribe to a set of relaunched Sky post-paid packages aimed at users who require significant amount of data and airtime per month. For example, the Sky Premium Platinum package comes with 200GB of mobile data per month.

Alongside the refurbished plans, MTN is now bundling its home internet products alongside the Sky Premium packages, going beyond contracts that South Africans are used to.

“With MTN Sky Premium, we’ve gone beyond the traditional price plan,” says Bertus van der Vyver, General Manager for Postpaid and Home at MTN South Africa.

“We’ve created a range of mobile plans with the benefits of connecting the family, offering meaningful savings, and seamless connectivity on SA’s Best Mobile Network.”

Each of the plans, Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum come with access to all of the Sky Premium benefits including the latest smartphones like the iPhone 17 and a number of add-ons such as a 3-month Apple Entertainment Bundle combining Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Arcade, plus 20GB of streaming data.

From Silver, however, customers get access to a Premium Relationship Manager. Sort of like a personal banker but for your phone contract which MTN says will bring “personalised, priority support whenever needed.” All other plans get access to the call centres.

Each of the plans also comes bundled with MTN Home Internet 5G/LTE or MTN fibre. This means that Sky Premium customers will also receive routers from MTN for internet access. The company says that customers can save up to R800 on MTN internet if they get one of the Sky Premium packages.

However it is important to remember that MTN’s home internet packages, including its fibre have included soft caps or “fair usage” which will throttle your internet access when the caps are reached, usually around 1TB or 2TB, which an entire household streaming can hit within a week or two.

MTN says that existing MTN postpaid customers can switch or upgrade to the new MTN Sky Premium plans and get all benefits immediately. Customers with an existing MTN Home Internet or MTN Fibre service can also save up to R800 per month when they join MTN Sky Premium.
